No way in hell is Donald the best ever. Honestly doesn't even make my top 10.

Cornerbacks
Middle Linebackers
DE/OLB

Those position's have priority over DT on my list.

There are only 3 players to have 3 Defensive Players of the Year in NFL History (one being Donald), and he doesn't make your top 10?!

LOL.

Whos AD really got as competition for the award though? Imo there were far more greater defensive player back then, then there is now. A aging Von Miller? Nah. JJ Watt is aged and brittle now. Darius Leonard? Hmm. TJ Watt is good competition i see him winning it a few more times.. Fred Warner? ... great player but I don't see him winning this award. Nick Bosa could win it one day. Who knows. Myles Garret would be a solid bet to push for the award. Back then you had guys like LT, Ray Lewis, Dion Sanders, Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Sapp, Ed Reed , Derrick Brooks. Jason Taylor, Urlacher, Polamalu, Charles Woodson... I could go on and on. Just in my opinion there was far more elite defensive talent back then. So who's really pushed the needle for AD for this award this generation?

Half those guys you named played in different eras.

And the reason you saw "better" defensive players back then is bc they didn't play with the same rule changes of today. It's not like guys are smaller and weaker than previous eras.

Half ? Really? Try again. Most of those guys played in a nfl season at the same time

After the Super Bowl on Sunday, I actually heard two boobs saying that Aaron Donald is the best defensive player ever!!! Now, it sounded like they didn't believe it but, they said it on TV. Now I'm hearing it from Sharpe, Wiley and Acho. What is this? I checked the stats from one Niners game and #99 had zeros across the board! Hell, we have a guard who OWNS HIM AND THE NINERS ARE THINKING ABOUT DUMPING HIM!!! Help me understand what's going on!!!

Well until the NFC Championship we've been handling him with a tier three guard.

Great? Sure. Hall of Fame? Yeah. GOAT? Not quite. Lawrence Taylor.
I mean I get it. I get why someone would think he was the GOAT. But even with all the accolades he gets, and all the disruption he causes, he still doesn't put the fear of God into offenses like Lawrence Taylor did.
Dont see how he can be put in the conversation of GOAT when JJ Watt in his prime was more dominant. Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Polamalu, Reed, Wilfork.. Just a couple names that would give Donald a run for his money in that conversation depending on what you are looking at. For all time GOAT most will always say Taylor but Polamalu is underrated, he did everything at an elite level. Watching him hurdle centers after perfectly timing the snap to sack the QB... making interceptions like a Willie Mays catch... just a complete game wrecker all around.

Go back to SB 50 at Levi's. Von Miller dominated that game won SB MVP and owned a league MVP far more dominant performance in his prime than Donald in his SB. Consider Miller has more sacks and even a kinda past his prime Miller had more postseason sacks this past year than Donald. Donald isn't even the best D player on his team or even 2nd best on his own team Jalen Ramsey. Third best dude on his own team

That explains the 3 DPOY awards. Teams scheme to stop Donald. That's always the primary concern. Miller on that Broncos team had a potential HoFer on the other side.
Dude isn't even the best defensive lineman all time for the team he is on. Deacon Jones was much scarier than Aaron Donald. I get that not a lot of us here didn't get to see him play, but the only lineman I can recall being better than Deacon was Reggie White. Donald is an awesome player, best dt in this era; one where you can get away with being undersized.

Jones was a DE. Donald is a DT putting up DE numbers.

Also, Lawrence Taylor. Not sure why people are forgetting about him.
OK i guess the question if we are talking about DT's or at least a 3 down lineman... Warren Sapp, Aaron Donald, Vince Wilfork, Hiloti Ngata, JJ Watt... Maybe its because the niners always shut him down but for interior D line I would take at least Sapp and Wilfork over Donald. In big moments, Donald just doesnt take over a game. Von Miller can be asleep all year but at least wakes up for the playoffs.

Maybe its also because we have the division of jitterbug QBs along with Shanny being able to shut him down through scheme with backup linemen. I dont see him batting down passes like Watt did when he gets stuffed but still was a league leader in sacks. I'd take Sapp, Wilfork or Watt over him and wouldnt even bat an eye.

He literally won the Super Bowl for the Rams at the biggest moment. You have 49er games bias. We have small, athletic guards, and that's the kryptonite for small, athletic DTs. But we still double and triple team him, and control him through our run game and quick passes. Other teams do not have the personnel match we do. He didn't get those defensive MVPs by being shut down all the time.
Nope.
new to the thread. donald is a hof player but is so goddamned overrated.
Puh-lease …. Aaron Donald has been D.B. Cooper (you know, he disappeared) against the 49ers for most of his career, including this year (until the end on the NFC Championship game.

Hell, Deacon Jones AND Merlin Olsen were better RAMS than A.D. …. and Ronnie Lott was a more impactful defensive player than Aaron Donald is.

So, no. Just no.

No! Not even close and I don't fear him like some of the players I use to watch. …Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Troy Palumalu, Junior Seau, Ray Lewis, are just some I put ahead oh him.
depends if goodell is watching him
