Experience and versatility...those are the key words to describe him. Good signing to keep the DL strong...add Kinlaw to it and that group should keep rollin'. Kind of like to see them bring Willis back. Still hasn't reached his full potential, IMHO.

Good way to look at it. And if Hurst can play, he can offset the loss of Arden Key (if Key isn't re-signed).
I think we will be fine obviously.
But IMO we won't be elite in our run stopping anymore with the loss of DJ.
That doesn't mean we can't improve overall.
When were we elite in stopping the run? Haven't seen that since the days of Bowman & Willis
Frankly, in the NFL of 2022 the only real time a team needs to dominate against the run is when your team is behind in the second half and the other team is trying to drain the clock. But most teams throw way more in those situations now as well.

I think I read somewhere that the second half of last season we were top 3 in run defense.

The 49er run defense down the stretch last season was very good once AA was full time inside with DJJ beside him. Yes it's a passing league, but being able to stop the run will set up those 2nd and 8+ where many offenses don't have the patience to run on 2nd and long, which sets up the pass rush. It's still important when the game is in the balance.

Its always good to have good DL rotation. Seems this guy had a few injuries that held him back.

Kind of unusual picking up ST and rotational DT this early.

also kind of unusual holding onto to a qb just to save face instead of admitting they had no plan b and now its costing us signing some guys who could have helped us in a major way. but lets just play it safe and settle for almost getting over the hump. its safer that way.,less stressful.

Nice low risk high reward signing at a position they always seem to get maximum value out of

Good size, got some good burst and in his prime. Koc will work that ass to near pro bowl caliber like he done with other average D linemen
Ankle injury in 2019, biceps injury in 2020, but injury free in 2021... that's got irk Lynch quite a bit

You know, I actually mocked us drafting him in the 4th round in 2016:

Only because it's fun to look back on these things sometimes

this signing actually pisses me off, and I've been very supportive (and patient) with the FO thus far
Eagles' fans thought he would be back at a vet min, or only wanted him back at that number. He's the equivalent to Givens or Hurst for us. He's been hurt most of his career.
we could've drafted someone in the 6th round (like we did with DJJ) who would've been just as effective and so much cheaper.
I don't understand this move at all, especially when a few hours later Mostert was signed for less than a mil more
edit: or we could've used this money to re-sign Jordan Willis - who plays a position of greater importance AND need
I hope I'm proven wrong, but I don't like this signing at all
