Absolutely, I'm clueless about the compensatory pick rules, but it can't hurt to have Compton, Key, and Laken signed off our team - I know (somehow) that helps us get compensatory picks, but I have no real clue how. Key and Compton were low tier free agents - if we can get 6th or 7th round draft picks for them - with the way this coaching staff can get 6th round picks to play like first rounders - it's a win.
Signing cut players like these don't count against us in the formula.
Then, on the players we lose to Free Agency that sign with another team like Compton, Tomlinson, Williams, Key, etc. count in the formula based on contract size and other elements. Those are offset by players we sign. So most likely Charvarius Ward cancels out Laken Tomlinson.
