I'd disagree with you there....but regardless....would you have said that 4 months ago? He was considered at min. a top 5 type QB, and Denver were thought of as a legit SB team. Wilson is basically a bottom 5 guy now.

if he continued his trajectory coming into this year he would be HoF, but he fell off hard. Keep in mind he never had an MVP season nor did he carry his team to a championship

That's what we were told.

Has any top flight, HOF-type QB fallen faster off a cliff than Wilson in the history of the NFL?

Hard to think of any outside of injury......the two that somewhat come to mind (but really aren't the same scenario because it wasn't quite the cliff) are Donovan McNabb and Cam Newton. Daunte Culpepper declined from injury, IIRC.

None of those guys had a one year drop off like that as you said. Russell's decline makes Carroll look like an even better coach.

Most people saw him as a HOFer before this season began....based on what he'd already done. Like I said....he went from top 5 type to bottom 5 type in basically half a season. Without looking it up, I think that may be unprecedented.

so was it Wilson?
Seattle stadium?
pete?

I am so confused what our Kryptonite was.

wilson looks like a parody of a QB.

in hindsight, all wilson really did was scramble drill -> find a deep guy when coverage breaks down, rinse and repeat.

Now that he lacks his old athletic ability he is nothing

Scrambling QB's have a limited shelf life. Wilson did last for about ten years, so he lasted longer than most.

The other thing I think (and pure speculation on my part) is that he, himself, overestimated his skill, worth and value to an NFL franchise. He got what he wanted and he got paid.....but be careful what you wish for some time. Denver was sold on it, but he's in NFL purgatory right now.

Of course, some of this is having the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, as always.

He doesn't have an MVP award and has rarely been in the MVP discussion. That could hurt him. And only has 1 SB. I think he still gets in though but he I don't think he will ever be looked at as a top 10 QB all-time.

He was never top 10, even without this season.

Not even close to top 10 if you're talking all-time QB's, IMO.

Wilson has clearly fallen off a cliff, and a lot of that is on him. With Seattle, he was basically a one read guy/scramble until a guy came open....and credit to him. Most guys tuck the ball and run, but he kept his eyes open downfield. I think this whole 'let Russ cook' nonsense has put him in a scenario in which he can't flourish. He's not that type of guy to work from the pocket. He just can't or won't make the elusive plays outta the pocket anymore.

That stadium is a joke - just like the Kingdome was. Whenever Seattle had a good defense, like they had in the 1980's, or a great one about 10 years ago, it would be a house of horrors....especially for divisional opponents in prime time. Such a home field advantage.

I'm not sure how much credit Pete should get.
Could Denver have a shot filing for NFL bankruptcy?
Wilson was so elusive, you couldn't get to him. How many times did he scramble and then throw up a Hail Mary to beat us. It happened every time we played. Before he landed in Denver he was no longer as elusive as in the past. Once in Denver the transformation accelerated. If he had won that second SB, back to back, his legacy would have assured.

fair points.

I was so frustrated that we wouldn't beat them up there.

I know it gave rise to conspiracy theories (no lies i was into them ). but in truth we just couldn't win up there when it mattered.

Matt Ryan, Cam Newton and Rich Gannon have MVP's. Those guys will never make the HOF. Drew Brees doesn't have an MVP and only has one SB....and he's easily a lock. Wilson wasn't as good as Brees.

He's not top 10 all time, but that and whether you believe he's a HOFer or not is kinda irrelevant.....it's the complete implosion of a guy who many thought was still a top 5 type guy only 4 months ago, and now he's basically a bottom 5 guy. Unless this is a one year fluke job and he reclaims his status, it's a historically bad drop given the time frame.
Ugh Akers.
