Just throwing up a simple stat like Wilson is top 5 in yards per carry is not a great argument for not getting McCaffrey. McCaffrey would be getting way more yards than Wilson and he has the ability to be a gamebreaker. Wilson is the exact opposite.
Not only that, McC makes the defense shift away from everybody else unlike Wilson who the defense could give two s**ts about. I don't know how that's a possible argument throwing up a stat like yards per carry when it's completely worthless when looking at the games Wilson has performed in. Our running game is not that efficient with Wilson and when Mitchell comes back it will be much better. Wilson cannot get extra YPC unlike Mitchell who seems to always fall forward for an extra 3-4 yards and NOT fumble.
Everyone has seen how Deebo has shifted entire defenses, McC does the same. In the end it doesn't really matter because we're not going to trade for him because that's not what we do. Sucks

The deal from CBS Sports or some such nonsense:
This is just like a hypothetical trade from the site not a real trade..

49ers acquire: RB Christian McCaffrey
Panthers acquire: 2024 second-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick, RB Tyrion Davis-Price
Kyle Shanahan can make most anyone thrive in his run-heavy system, but McCaffrey is of a different breed -- so proven as a pass catcher that he'd give Jimmy Garoppolo (and/or Trey Lance down the road) an every-down safety valve, not to mention another Swiss Army Knife alongside Deebo Samuel. It wouldn't be an easy pill to swallow for Panthers fans, but Carolina's long-term needs are more important, and two picks plus a third-round rookie for a pricey, injury-prone RB is reasonable value.

The offense can only struggle for so long before you finally say enough is enough and decide to do something about it. Can't keep making excuses.

😬 yea that might be a little to rich but maybe turn the 2nd into a 3rd and if the coaching staff is big on Mason over TDP then maybe

What you think he's gonna go 6 YPC lol? Nah. He's awesome. He's also not necessary for this team to be successful right now. They have other needs that are vastly more important.
SF fans get all bent out of shape when all our guys get hurt and the same fans want to trade for CMC
They just wanna see the team do "stuff". Almost a child like approach to football.
I get the demand for CMC however. But pay verses use, injury history, and our actual problems, I just don't see it. Not for what Carolina wants and what CMC would be paid. Trade for a tackle and a DT if you want to do something. Trade for a corner. Also I'd agree we are missing the dynamic runner. I think Mitchell is that guy, but I'd like two. Would rather wait for the draft to get that second guy and trade for other positions if we will make a move.

Who is they?
and do you have any feelings one way or another on how the team should proceed or you good with the status quo?

Edited my post afterwards to share moves I thought the team should make. Adding an OT, DT, and CB if we are going to make a move.
And they is anyone that has burned this regime for taking on Kinlaw, Dee Ford, McKinnon, Verrett, and all the rest of our current or past walking wounded. CMC is dynamic, but if he gets hurt, with his injury history, what is the trade for McCaffrey crowd going to say? Yes, anyone can get hurt, but for this team to trade for and pay big dollars to a player with that injury history? It doesn't add up.

Word
I hear you, we could definitely use an OT for the future maybe even an upgrade at C as others have mentioned. I honestly think our future at CB isn't terrible if we can resign Moseley and we can always use another DT!
For me looking at our immediate need, stats, potentially available player and if it can work financially, CMC just seems perfect to inject some life into our run game and offense as a whole.
I get the injury worry, injuries suck! I'm thinking the 1-2 punch of him and Mitchell would consistently keep our offense running at its optimal level.
And I'm really not looking beyond this year, he fits this year but paying him big bucks for future years I'm not to sure about. Looking at him like an Emanuel Sanders like acquisition. If the numbers work for the future great but I really don't want to waste another year on a ho-hum offense and an elite defense.

What's the point of CMC when you got brendel and Moore and mcglinchy up front.
we had a top tier run game because Trent was healthy, Mack was a pro bowler, and laken was pretty damn good. Those guys were a solid run blocking unit. Pass blocking was average.
this years group is f**king terrible

Agreed. You probably can argue they are better pass protecting this year. I don't have a PFF subscription to compare grades, but it seems Jimmy has had some pretty good pockets the last few weeks.

There's an increasing sense that the 49ers are leading contenders -- maybe the lead contenders -- to land Christian McCaffrey.https://t.co/XtMUKeKkLY
