A middle linebacker who wants 20+ million a year isn't going to help them. They need wide receivers, defensive linemen and offensive linemen. They are going to try to stack for the draft and build in free agency with 125 million in salary cap.
I like the move for them.

This. Would be immediately disruptive in the middle as a starter. Payne plus AA when he returns would be an incredible DT tandem...and wouldn't have to count on Kinlaw staying healthy. This DL inside and out would be a force!

Sources: The #Commanders are expected to release cornerback William Jackson III if there's no trade partner by the deadline. Teams have called on Jackson but no trade has materialized and the back injury was also believed to be a factor. Jackson signed a $40.5M deal in 2021.
