If Trey Lance had this game people on here would be losing their minds. But continue hating Fields

Actually for the most part, they would be killing Kyle. That is now 4 games for Justin with over 10+ carries.

Half the board would be pissed at Shanny for 14 carries yesterday. The other half would be calling for his head because the offensive genius couldn't muster more than 123 pass yards and in 9 games this year he has 4 outings with under 125 yards passing. Only one game out 9 with 200 yards or more passing

Meh it probably wouldn't be exactly the same. Again, Fields basically just has run of the mill guys to throw to. Getting Claypool helps a bit. But it's certainly likely that he throws for more yards here. I mean guys like Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, obviously they're going to run after the catch if it's available.

I get some of what you're saying but I don't think the Bears are just purposefully running him up the middle that much. Don't know. I also think people here would take the 31 or so points he's averaged over the past 3 games and hope with our team we'd be 3-0. Very very small sample size but that's more ppg than peak/best/good Jimmy. In fact I'd be curious to see if we've ever averaged that over a 3 game stretch with Jimmy.

But some here would be ripping peak Joe Montana here for a bad throw here and there.

The difference to me TL wasn't working on the designed stuff. Show me one play in 2 years where his designed QB keep worked remotely. He was getting beat to the spot over and over. If TL could run like Fields I see much less problem.

As it stood the TL runs were very low reward with high risk. I view Fields running as much higher reward and lower risk. Fields was getting down sliding week 1 vs us even drew some penalties iirc. More agile, quick, reactive. Lance runs more like Tebow trying to go thru guys. He did that all the time in college. I don't think TL is nearly as good a runner nor does it translate as well. If it's not working and he's trying to run thru guys.. that's a major problem imo. No upshot and all downside, to the point it was obvious what the result would be.. just a matter of time.

The media is already jumping on the bandwagon and calling this guy the next big super star. Wow.

They said the same about Mac Jones and Jimmy G. Media can't be taken seriously

The best athletic talent is certainly Fields. He's better than Lance by a lot on athletic ability.

And Lamar Jackson is a better athlete than Patrick Mahomes.

So Lance is Mahomes. LOL. He's shown nothing so far to believe that.

No but judging a QB purely on atheleticism isn't a great parameter. I like Fields but burying Lance before getting a fair look at him is premature.

That's fair. Although I will always wonder why we took him over Fields with this team at this time. But let's hope that he shows why eventually.

You're right, if we were 3-6 and Trey Lance just had a game where he passed for 121 yards on 4.4 YPA and lost, people here would be losing their minds. No disrespect to Fields, he has shown a lot of improvement, but he's just the latest shiny thing for people here to grasp onto to attack the FO. Last year it was Mac Jones, but since Jones has been mediocre at best, they're now latching onto Fields.
Damn we shoulda drafted Fields

300 yards counts the same wether it's running or passing. He played well and to downplay it by bringing up his passing numbers is as disingenuous as SD writing off Lance after 4 games. Jalen Hurt and Lamar Jackson have had plenty of games where they passed for less than 150 yards and I'm pretty sure everyone on this board would take those 2 QBs.

This is my personal opinion, but I don't think Shanahan liked Fields' personality. He can seem very abrasive, he's short with his answers and he's not going to go out of his way to kiss anyone's ass. I can see Shanahan being turned off by him assuming he was arrogant or not teachable.

Lance has some Russell Wilson in him. He's kind of corny and he knows how to play the role when it's called for. I look at it as Fields being the quiet kid in the back of the class and Lance sitting in the front, arm raised high and greeting the teacher with a fresh apple every day.

Little things like these can be extrapolated in the predraft process and I think it had a lot to do with Fields falling.
