One note on this I hear the old refrain you develop with play time. Tell it to Zach Wilson. Some guys got it some don't. Wilson ain't it.

I'm not ruling Wilson out just cause his arm is special but the kids circling the drain.

Yes, this is the s**t that bugs me that a lot of posters here claim that you get better the more you play. I believe more in the 'it' factor than playing time as a meter for who is gonna be good or not. Lance has been injured so damn much though that you honestly just don't know yet if he has 'it'.

He's Diet Jay Cutler. And that's a best case he ain't even there yet.

That's fair. Im not judging people for writing him off he looks like garbage. But I'll wait til year 3 to really start to be critical of him.

His passing looks terrible right now and he's too anxious to take off and run. However, given the limited weapons he has it's fair to wait another year to see how he does if he gets help. Assuming he gets help.

Lance needs next year and probably the following for the Niners to know if they have the right guy. Someone is going to get Caleb Williams in 2024 so they need to know if Trey can play. Let's hope the Rams don't continue to suck and end up with Williams.

Fields is a gifted runner I don't think it's a dig at Lance to say he's clearly better in that facet of his game. But our collective belief was that Lance was the better passer but when he was healthy we were running him more than the Bears ran Fields which kinda spits on that notion he's the better passer. The Fields is gonna get hurt crowd can take a victory lap now that Fields hurt his shoulder and hamstring in this game though.

For the record Lance has 71 passing attempts and 38 runs. Fields has been running almost as much as he passes the last 3 games. He's running more now than he was when he first came into the league. It's supposed to be the other way around.

I'm sure Chicago is going to try and surround him with help but will they be able to do it. They've had such a poor record of drafting offensive help over the years. If they do then Fields will need to learn to actually pass instead of taking off on every other play.

Fields went to the coaches and told them he wanted to run more for a few reasons. He said he was sick of losing I'm guessing it's also cause he wasn't able to pass effectively. The coaching staff obliged and the results have been pretty good considering how horrible they were previously. They are still losing but Fields has been much more productive. And this is why I think Kyle was running Lance a lot it was to be as productive as possible.

Just because we ran Lance a lot does not mean we spit on the notion of him being a better passer. These things are two separate issues. Not the same, not at all. So that is incorrect to say. Lance is a good runner and he has shown that, he showed that against the Bears on that third and 13 run. It's not a knock on him or his passing just because we want to utilize his running ability. After all, he was doing fine in the first half before the monsoon hit as a passer. A lot better than Fields for that matter.

Both qbs will be among the best 5 in the NFC in 2 years time imo (once Rodgers and Brady retire)

Loser. Again. He needs to learn how to win. Not just pull a couple plays out of his ass. This isn't fantasy or madden.

Yeah that was an ugly game losing int. He cost his team earlier by a wide-open missed touchdown throw when a defender fell down. He will get better but I don't like his accuracy.

That is two weeks in a row he lost the game by throwing an interception. Last week it was a pick six and this week it was a game sealing interception. Definitely not good under pressure but at least he can run around and extend plays

Hs throwing shoulder was injured. He'd been dropping dimes in this game. Bad coaching. He'd been throwing fine they ran him.on first and he injured his shoulder on the tackle. Then they run him again on second down. That INT was on his shoulder being jacked

OK I was wrong. It was not his throwing shoulder that was injured. It looked like it when he was tackled and the INT I am giving him a pass on because he was hurt.

That said I'd take him in a heartbeat. Surround him with our playmakers and our defense and I believe he and the 49ers would be successful. I know it's a moot point because the 49ers drafted Trey but a man can dream.
Well that ankle injury isn't going to make Trey Lance faster ,so he will need to step it up in the passing game.

Imo the QB window for seeing if they're legit or not is 3-5 years.
Good news is when trey takes over we have our picks back. So he can suck and we can get high picks.

if he played this year and struggled we get no high 1sts. I think it'll work out one way or another
As good as Justin seemingly is I'm afraid of his injury chance as a running qb.

he may not be a bust but he may go the rg3 and luck route and have a short sweet career

That window may be like 9-15 in "Lance" years with the amount of time he's put on the field so far.
Bears passing offense looks exponentially better today than it has all season.

Oh wait, are we only allowed to say that for the 49ers?

10-24? Exponentially better? The goal is to win and Fields was keeping em closer. Their defense is garbage.

Yeah I'm all on the Trey train but see his loss of play time as less of a big deal given that play time experience can also lead to bad habits if your mind aint right eg Zach Wilson. Hope Treys body holds up because I'm a full believer that he has the right brain to succeed.
