With his size and speed I think he could a really dangerous H back like Delaney Walker but even better. I don't know what they could get in a trade so making the position switch could be an option. He could also be the backup QB.

Williams may or may not become a star but if he does and Chicago passes on him their fans will never let them forget it. Our fans still complain that we didn't draft Mahomes and he wasn't even considered a great prospect.

Perfectly said. I concur. Not a good qb like many of us have said for years. Great rb though

10-15+ years ago this could easily backfire, but there's so much QB talent now coming out in the draft. For the past 5 years it's been such of influx of QBs going early in drafts. I'm sure next year will be another wave of a couple great prospects. If not, there's always trade/FA, and Chicago could be a very good destination if they have another solid draft and hire the right coach.

From the first link I provided a couple posts up:

'The unprecedented demand for QBs on rookie contracts is showing signs of driving a panic rush on QBs in the top end of the first round in 2021, with QBs who might have previously carried a second round scouting rating being discussed as top ten prospects. The problem with this scenario, if it truly plays out like that, is that the supply of starting quality QB prospects is showing no signs of increasing to meet demand.'

I think the study is somewhat flawed (mostly due to the fact they had to project some and also subjectively define 'success') but I do think it's worth questioning if there actually is so much QB talent coming in or if we assume that because more teams are reaching for QBs early.

Yeah I was going to say that I didn't think there have been many "great" prospects. I never thought Lance, Wilson, Mac jones, fields were great prospects. I liked fields the most for what Kyle was saying he desired at the time. I thought only Lawrence was a "great" prospect.

i didn't think there was a single decent prospect in the first round in 2022, obviously Brock has shown to be the only prospect that was worth drafting that year.

2020, I loved burrow and thought he was a slam dunk. The one I was wrong about was Herbert. I didn't think he would be bad but I didn't expect him to play how he has shown, although I think he's overrated. Top 10 qb but I don't consider him elite, yet, although he's had crap coaching. So who knows how he will look with a competent coach.

2023, I really liked stroud but I wasn't sold on him like I was burrow.

my point is that you can shovel as many qb prospects and draft them wherever, it doesn't mean that most of them are great prospects. Caleb Williams is probably one of the best qb prospects over the last 5 years. If he was in the same draft as Lawrence, it would be a tough decision on which one to pick, IMO. And I really liked Lawrence as a prospect.

Yeah I wanted him, but he cant read a defense at all so am glad we dodged that bullet. Once he cant use his legs for backyard ball he worthless.

He's a great option for a Fantasy Football QB.

Funny enough I had someone bust my balls all year to trade Josh Allen for Fields, and in some weeks it actually would've made sense.

But from the 30,000 ft level as football players, it was insulting.

I agree with the premise, if it's as simple as get a high draft pick, and take QB, NYJ would have found success long ago. They've been drafting em for years. So has CHI for that matter,

Control what you can control. It's easier to project an OL can handle the guy across from him, than projecting a QB. Or projecting someone can get after the QB. QB is the toughest position to solve for and often random chance.

Also, and 538 touched on this, there is a gap between the value of picks, and the perception of value those picks have. Pick 1 is the best pick, but teams will pay more for that pick, than the pick is actually worth.

If you do want to take a QB, you give yourself best odds by having a good culture, talent around the QB, and system. You also give best odds if you can sit the QB until ready.

The bust rate of OL has skyrocketed since the spread offense took hold. It's not easy to project it at all anymore.
Bears need to move on from this bust

Where do you get the idea that Fields can put the ball on a dime and does so often? After 3 seasons he has a career completion % of 60.3. That's near the bottom of the league for starters. Accuracy is his biggest issue and he hasn't improved much from his rookie season . He's only improved from 59.9% to 61.4%. His passer rating in an era of bloated stats is a horrible 86.

Fields is good football player but not a good QB.

Because I've seen him do it in college and in the NFL. He's not nearly consistent enough with but he's done it enough that its clear that he can put the ball wherever he wants, his biggest issues are being indecisive and lacking proper pocket presence, causing him to fire off passes late or with pressure bearing down on him. A lot of that is on him, the rest is on crap coaching which is what he's gotten since coming into the NFL.

I think you can absolutely work with Fields but you need to call an offense to his strengths, you can't really put him in just any system and expect him to thrive. The Bears should have cleaned house, whether or not they were keeping Fields but since they are keeping their HC, I think that it makes even more sense to roll with Fields and bring a more creative OC that will be willing to build an offense around what Fields excels at.

Personally I would go out and hire Greg Roman who has built top end rushing attacks everywhere he's been and has been able to get good play out of ultra-athletic QB's and maximize their ability to threaten with their legs. The Bears just need some traction, they've been dumpster fire status for so long that just winning games and making a playoff run would be an upgrade.

Man. Bears fans are NOT happy today. Reminds me of January 2015 when we hired Tomsula. Yikes.

Packers fans are happy though. Lol And they will be happier if the Bears keep Fields.

Ryan Poles is not risking his job for a QB he didn't draft.
They will go with one of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.

That sounds like they are willing to move on from Fields if the price is right.
