There are 64 starting OTs in the league. Of those 64, McGlinchey is ranked #25, and that is after a BAD game last week when he was clearly rusty coming off an injury.

At the end of the year, McG will likely end up about where he has been in the past,#15-23. So, while that seems low considering his draft slot, he is a quality starter in the league. Given how hard it is to find OT quality in the draft, and the resultant high price of FA (see TW's contract), I expect to see McGlinchey get a new contract.

Hopefully with another team

Shouldn't a top 10 pick be ranked higher than #25? I hope you don't have inside sources that Mcglinchey is getting a new contract because that would be very stupid on the part of the Front Office to bring this guy back.

I constantly see guys coming right through(sometimes literally) Mcglinchey. He is certainly the weak link of the Offensive line. I don't get why you feel the need to defend him like he is a good tackle. Hell, last year the line looked better when Compton came in. That is saying a lot.

Please. I still haven't seen Fields throw an accurate deep pass like Lance has done a few times and he still takes unnecessary sacks, holds the ball too long and has poor pocket awareness.

Now Fields is getting better but they are certainly hiding him by running the ball at a tremendously insane rate

I think Lance and Fields will be the best 2 qbs out of this class bc Jones is hot garbage oftentimes, Lawrence is a turnover machine and so is Wilson

Ohhhh I see what your doing...

No reason to get upset because Lance is the worst of the bunch. Busts happen. The 49ers will be fine.

You and SD need to get banned if hes not a bust. Your guys takes are so awful, reminds of some Skip Bayless s**t. But at least he gets paid, you guys posts trash and nothing to show for it lol

I got your attention, that's all the payment I need.

Ah so you're one of these gen z kids that needs attention. Figures lol

Fields is ahead right now by a lot. Improving by leaps and bounds in every game.

Because he is playing. Players get better with more reps, Who would have thought. The same will happen with Trey. Except Trey will be better.

It would be nice to think so but I doubt it. Fields is just more talented. We're talking about a guy who was basically even with Lawrence in their recruiting class and again basically even, or should have been basically even in their draft class but people were enamored with the flavors of the month in Zach Wilson, and well, Lance.

Of course ultimately it will come down to processing things at this level for both. Also ultimately it doesn't matter if Trey is better than Fields or not. What's done is done and he just needs to be good enough to justify what was given up for him regardless of where that puts him in the overall pecking order.

If that is the way we should evaluate the 2021 QB draft class, Trey Lance must turn out to be the best of the bunch. No other team gave up anywhere near what the 49ers gave up for Lance.

On that basis, I would suggest Fields is the best of the class as of right now.

I mean yeah I get what you're saying.

But what I was saying, and maybe could have said it better on short notice on my phone is it really shouldn't matter which is "better". All that matters is that he plays well enough to justify our taking that risk on him.

If Justin Fields is a 7 time Pro Bowler, just to throw numbers out, and Trey is a 6 timer, who cares?

If Fields wins a league MVP and Trey wins a Super Bowl who cares? In fact, I'd say we'd come out the winners in that one.

I wish we would have taken Fields not only as an Ohio State fan but because I thought he was the better player and safer pick. But if Trey becomes one of the league's best it all works out no matter if he's better than or worse than Fields.
Seems like this post should be rename to the Justin Fields and bash Trey Lance. It's just an echo chamber for the latter, those who are bitter for the Niners drafting Trey Lance.

Two will always be linked. The comparison between the two is inevitable.

They will always and forever be compared. They were in the same draft class. We could have had Fields. The will always be linked.

Correct.. especially when we drafted TL as a run threat.. I have yet to see it. Fields is on pace for 900+ rush yds this year. Bears as a team are ranked #1 in rushing by a mile. Fields has a lot to do with that.
Unfair for Trey to even be judged right now since he has only started 3 full games. The way I see it is he has started 3 games and had 1 good game. So he is 1 out of 3. Fields has had about 20 full games and has about 4 good games. So trey is 1-3 and Fields is 4-20

The far better runner is Fields. Faster and more dynamic. I don't see game speed with Lance. Not sure what he runs because he didn't run. But it's nowhere near the legit 4.4 of Fields. Just watch the games.

I disagree with unfair to judge. Sure unfair to judge his entire career path (future). But you can judge his game performance in the games already played. Coaches do this each game they review play by play and judge the entire game. With the footspeed / athleticism, it's not something you develop over experience. You kinda either have it or you don't.
I'm personally not a fan of designed runs. I'd do a handful a game with Lance/Fields in goalline situations and short yardage stuff, but I don't like exposing the quarterback like that. The Bears are doing it out of necessity simply because they can't protect Fields in the pocket. The 49ers have no reason to run QB power with Lance. I hate it and I hated it prior to him being injured.

Lance's athleticism is fine and he's plenty fast to scramble out of the pocket and convert for 1st downs. My issue isn't his perceived athleticism, it's his ability to deliver in the pocket.

He was never going to be a better or faster runner than Fields. But I think he is eventually going to be a much better passer than Fields. Fields has played 20 or so games and still struggles at that part of his game. Especially within the pocket. Lamar Jackson is a much faster runner than Mahomes, Does that mean he is a better QB?

Fields is not really functional in the drop back game.. however they are rightly not doing that as much and getting him on the move and he can give chunk plays in the pass game and put a lot of stress in the run game. He's starting to maybe turn a corner.

For QB I don't really value run traits vs pocket traits.. however with our club we clearly decided I am told to value run traits and 11v11 positionless football meaning an extra blocker cuz the QB is able to run / carry. If that was the plan, looking at Lance's ability to run or lack thereof is critical. It's a lot of why we selected him imo and why we spent an entire offseason installing designed run action. Mahomes is certainly imo a better QB than Lamar.. I would say.. If you want a QB run heavy offense you may be trying to land the next Lamar over the next Mahomes if that makes sense.. more looking for those run traits..
Fields only once this season has thrown for over 200 yards. He went 3 consecutive weeks without throwing a TD pass. Only twice this season he has thrown multiple TD passes in a game. He has 7 TD passes in 8 games. That's a pace of about 15 TD passes. Counting the rushing TD's he has 10 TD's in 8 games. He has 6 INT's and fumbled 11 times(Lucky for him he only lost 1 of those fumbles). He has had maybe 2 decent games this season. But Trey has 1 bad game that was played in a monsoon and he is a bust. If Trey had Fields stat line right now, People would be in an uproar. Even with all those rushing yards.
