With Fields you at least still have the unknown. You already know what you will get with RW at this stage of his career.

There isn't too much unknown with Fields. He's an explosive athlete with limited QB skills. He ain't improving much at this point.

True..no QB ever gets better after 2-3 years lol

Saying it as an absolute is just silly. He might even get worse or he could get better or he stays the same. But you have no clue and neither does anyone else.
Yea the suggestion is that "explosive athletes" can't improve.

The ones that are not explosive but get here by using their brains are the ones that have alot of room for growth.

Makes no sense but let's go with it!
the kick return stuff, was always a clown take. my suspicion is PIT wanted to see if JF is a 'team player'. he seems to have failed the test. per ESPN:

Justin Fields laughs off kick return idea: 'Not here to do that'

we all know he's not here to do that, point is they wanted to see you say you would do that. it was a test Justin, and you failed. he has a poor attitude. this is a guy who said in CHI that he has to disregard coaching and go into 'eff it' mode and just play.

Failed in the steelers eyes, but he can't let Pitt use him as a gadget for Field's future career. What, he has one year left on his contract ?

failed in everyones eyes, when the team asks him to do x, he says no thank you, without the thank you
so that doesn't help him on the market, they were never gonna have him shagging kicks
they basically asked him if he's a team player, and he said no

Not in everyone's, it's career suicide saying he would

he would have called their bluff, and demonstrated he's a team player

Idk if it's a bluff... if it's a joke, Fields would have said yeah he would. Fields is a luxury to them. They have their starting QB already

remember the Slash ?

There's no reason to not try to utilize his athleticism outside of the QB position. He's one of the most explosive runners on the field in any given game. KR/PR, WR, gadget QB… all at least worth exploring on some level.

Using Fields as a slash player would be a Tomlin kinda thing to do

silly. he's QB2, and in some level of comp for QB1. Wilson surely gets QB1 to start in deference to his vet presence, but not sure how long he will keep it. why do you want QB2 on the shelf cuz he's doing something an undrafted could do with flying colors.

It's not rare to have an athletic backup QB contribute in other ways besides sitting on the sidelines.

It's very rare to see undrafted talent with his athleticism, especially proven on some level in actual games. What you're more likely to find is lower round QB's who can play the QB position as effectively as Fields… which is to say not very well. There's a reason he was traded for peanuts.

understand what they are doing, they hired Art Smith, and they are pounding the rock, they got QBs who can execute that
Fields to return kicks was a joke, and likely a test which JF did not pass,

completely baseless theory. Actually makes no sense if you just step back and think about it in conjunction with his and the team's circumstances.

The team didn't send Jaylen Warren out to spread a rumor on a podcast to test Fields in an elaborate scheme to test Fields loyalty. Being told he was being traded for to be a backup would suffice.
