The Hags might to prevent the 9ers from doing so but maybe that is just crazy thoughts in my head

Let me do the math, Purdy was selected with the 262nd pick in the draft (last pick on the board), and Mayfield with the Number 1 overall pick. I'll take my chances with Mayfield.

A claim on Mayfield supposedly only costs $1.4 mil. It's open season for any team that still sees some potential in him to put in a claim. Or any team that has playoff aspirations that wants to block the Niners from getting him. Doubt we get him but it is worth putting in a claim because he is no doubt better then one of Oakland's finest Josh Johnson.

Can Baker put out there he doesn't want to sign with certain teams and is set on a specific team ?
Also Bosa can plant the flag for Baker

Seattle may grab him just to block him from us.

I read we are 24th on the waiver wire. So 23 teams need to pass including our division rivals Hags and Lambs to get to us.
I didn't quite understand how it worked but it is based on your league ranking/record based on the day of waiver wire post (worst to best)

I'm not a Mayfield guy...he had the ideal situation in Cleveland where he struggled to find any real consistency. Their OL's one of the best in the league. They've already signed Josh Johnson...while not a savior, he provides a ton of experience behind Purdy. Just don't see Mayfield adding enough tangible talent that would really help. I see him as an undesirable player at this point in his fading NFL career.

Sign him! We need someone with experience! Purdy looked decent yesterday but as we know, is only one hit away from a season ending injury.

Yeah but they would need to have him on their 53 for 3 or 4 weeks after they claimed him.
So they would forfeit a Roster Spot essentially

Yeah that's the point. There really isn't much around that we could pick up right now. Rosen? Hopefully not.

I'd imagine the Rams would claim him. They don't have a QB room right now so Baker's their last chance to even field a presentable team.

Let's move the discussion to the FA thread.
