Ridiculous lefty witch hunting. People are capable of walking and chewing gum. People can both have massive empathy for Damar while also wondering what's going to happen to the game/season and doing so doesn't mean you don't care about the kids welfare. I feel sorry for the s**t Bayless is taking. Im not a huge fan, but I feel for him.

Can we give credit to both coaches as well as bengals fans? I thought they handled it extremely well. If this happened in Seattle they would have thrown popcorn at the ambulance.

KNBR just had a cardiologist from San Jose come on and explain in detail what happened to Hamlin. It sounds like this was a very rare thing and even more so with football.

To begin with, it was cardiac arrest, not a heart attack. He explained the difference between the 2 but I won't go into that part. He explained that the chest would need to be struck in precisely the right spot at the right time when the heart is between beats. That's what caused the heart to go into arrest. It throws it out of rhythm or stops it between beats.

He said it would be much more likely to happen if a person was struck by a small object traveling at high speed like a baseball or hockey puck. That would provide a more concentrated blow to a small area. The likelihood of a shoulder pad or even a helmet causing this would be astronomical. That's why we've never seen this before even with all the hard hits in football. He went on to say that the probability of recovery depends lot on how long it was before they were able to restore his vital signs on field since the brain was deprived of oxygen during that time

Just a side note. I was talking to my next door neighbor who is a retired doctor and he said this happened to his grand daughter when she was struck in the right spot by a kite. Yes I said kite. I guess it came down at a fast speed and the wooden part hit her in the chest. Fortunately she was with her father who's also a doctor so he administered CPR right away. She made a full recovery after a short stay in the hospital.

This shows that it's not a safety issue. There's really no way they could protect against this short of banning tackling. It's freaky bad luck.
Lacrosse is another sport that has had similar heart issues.

small object and concentrated blows hmm. so maybe one way to reduce this is by having football players wear big shoulder pads again.

Is Shannon that guy,pal?
Hamlin is "neurologically intact"

Also somewhat "awake", though still critically ill and needs a lot of healing especially to his lungs which still can't function by themselves. Super good news though.

Yup agreed, both fan bases handled it properly and with class.

Very good news.
Fantastic and amazing news.

The most important thing here was if he was still neurologically intact after his arrest. This is why it's important to have timely CPR and an AED available.

As an intensive care and emergency med physician I deal with cardiac arrest patients all the time and whenever the "downtime" is prolonged we always worry about anoxic brain injury.

I am confident he will make an eventual full recovery if he truly is neurologically intact. His ARDS will eventually resolve.

Next step is further weaning from the ventilator while also continuing to work up causes for the arrest.

Lefty witch hunt, lol so dumb. Skip is an a*****e and shouldn't have tweeted it. Skip is an a*****e and shouldn't have interrupted Shannon. Skip is an a*****e, that's not political.

Making this political is so dumb, just like making it a Covid vaccine conspiracy is dumb.
