What would you have done in charge of Saints?

It very well could be (a dumb move by the Saints).

I don't see the Saints being world beaters by any means, but Carr automatically becomes the best QB in the NFC South. At least for the time being

They should still be able to compete for the NFC South division crown ... and then be fodder for the real playoff teams.

Sometimes you save money with the Daltons and Winstons, yet your QB room is crap and you lose a lot of games.. they decided they needed to invest more at that spot. Carr is a good one and it's a bargain contract if he plays well. If he doesn't play well you hit the eject button when you have the out on the contract, and if he doesn't play well they probably have a high pick or two.
It's only a 4 year commitment
Carr gonna crap the bed in NO. Waste of money. Dude is a loser.

Start a rebuild via draft. Carr in not making the Saints a SB contender. They would have had just a good a chance to win the division with a rookie QB (weak division), rather than making a splash signing with a guy who isn't a top 10 QB IMO. If they were looking for a transitional QB just to be competitive, Jimmy could be had for 25m and expectations would be much lower until you find the right guy in the draft….
how do the Saints even have the money to pay him with them being over the cap?
Jimmy gonna probably get about 32 mill, he's at least equal to Carr.

That's still $7.2M more than they were supposed to have! I'm yet to see the pain the cap was going to cause them, they've lost fewer players to cap issues than us, and seem to just be juggling around numbers.

The cap is a myth.

Good question

here are some ideas / quotes

The New Orleans Saints have restructured the contracts of LB Demario Davis and TE Taysom Hill, the moves create $12.724M in cap space, per Field Yates. That means they are only around -$18.174M over the salary cap, per Over The Cap.

This move also means that Taysom Hill and DeMario Davis will be Saints next year, they aren't going anywhere. The Saints desire to remain competitive has been consistent during the moves they have made to get under the cap.

The Saints still have a ton of moves they can make to get under the cap and then make some space. They can release QB Jameis Winston and create $12.8M in space. They can also restructure the contracts of Cameron Jordan and Marshon Lattimore, each would save around $10M respectively, so that's another $32.8M in savings with three moves.

from SB Nation

Winston is as good as gone he will be eating a W.. as in waivers
maybe we can lure to SF thanks to Fisherman's Wharf and local crab

lol Winston an icon after that eating that W..... I guess if they restructure those guys they won't have to worry bout the cap until another few years go by. Thanks for the info

I expect him to be similar to his days with the raiders. Win some games, blow some games by forcing things and missing the playoffs.
Had one of the best WR/RB combo in LV and still couldn't get past their 50 yard line lol.... I guess now he gets a better defense.
