And it cost them the game. That was 6 points and they lost by 5.

Didnt Reid and Mahomies carve up Ryans last year?
Reid and Mahomes carve up everyone.

Apparently though that game last year was the one of the worst games statistically for a defense in like almost 25 years.

It's gonna be a long and frustrating season If this guy doesn't wake up and make some serious adjustments.

I fear Joe burrows Is gonna break all kinds of records against us this Sunday.
The D needs to step up and have a big game this week. They can't go into the bye week with 3 straight losses and 3 straight bad defensive games.

Especially if we allow him to sit in the pocket and deliver zero pressure. Still can't believe we didn't get one sack last game on Cousins, not even one.

The DL has been a great disappointment so far. Here's to hoping the defense makes a big statement on Sunday.

It's frustrating looking at how good this defense was the last several years under Saleh and especially Ryans. It's getting progressively worse week by week as our averages keep dropping. We've dropped to 5th in points allowed which isn't terrible but we've dropped to 14th in yards allowed. It's just unacceptable with the talent on this defense.

I was listening to KNBR this morning and someone texted "how much longer is Bosa going to holdout?"

Maybe this will be the game where Bosa returns to form?

Or the game where Wilks changes things to allow the ends to attack and use some moves. We need to see some stunts like I saw Gregory use on one play. Anything to change things up. Lining up and charging straight into the blockers isn't working. Pressure is fine but QBs can still make plays under pressure. They can't when they're on the ground. I'll quote Al Davis: "The QB must go down and he must go down hard". But I have to add a caveat. Not too hard in this era of over officiating.

Maybe I'm optimistic but I think the changes that need to be made are to simplify things, as opposed to adding more layers to the playbook, or worse, a talent issue. With Kyle's guidance, I think a turnaround can be made.

My thinking is that a defense that has very talented players would benefit from having a scheme that can be multiple. This way, you combine talent with the ability to do a lot - blitz, play all the coverages, have multiple fronts, etc. But at some point, there's a drawback from doing too much. Defensive players like to keep it simple, let them use their instincts to tell them what to do. Practicing man coverage techniques, blitz schemes, zone coverages, pattern matching principles, etc., at some point it becomes a detriment to have a thick defensive playbook. There is high level talent all over this defensive roster. Keep it simple and let their talent take over.

Or, continue to rep all these concepts and at some point in week 12 it may pay off with a defense that can do a lot conceptually while also being talented. This is the conversation that the coaches need to have.
