Coach - Steve Wilks thread

that opening drive set the tone, KS just talked about it, 3rd and long, a couple hitches, meaning coverage is good, pass rush is good, and we allow Burrow to break 2 tackles, keep the drive moving

tackle the freakin quarterback, crap tackling all day, crap execution
They're afraid of penalties
Love the shot of him in the booth. He was probably playing sudoku
Burrow goes 28-32 with dudes wide open everywhere. Burrow is elite but that was an easy day for him. Scheme and coaching are major issues. Don't know what we do but unfortunately our only practical option is keeping Wilks and hope he figures it out. In other words, we're in major crisis mode. Feels even worse than when we were 3-4 last year with Trey and Jimmy out, just cuz I don't trust our D coach can turn it around

What also set the tone is its 3rd and 8, Romo goes wtf are we doing leaving a huge gap in the middle, and they draw up a qb draw for an easy first. Don't think I've seen a play like that work so easy in the NFL. That proved to me that Taylor was playing around with Wilks at that point

Wilks turned this once proud defense into a shell of its self. Seen a couple times players not even trying to gang tackle. Just not effort. Undisciplined other times, leading to miss tackles.
Kirk Cousins and Joe Burrow vs the 49ers defense over the past two weeks: 67-77, 661 yards, 8.6 yards per attempt, 6 TDs

Why is keeping wilks practical? Not rhetorical. I understand the difficulty of mid-season coaching changes, but my opinion is that this amazing defensive roster couldnt really play worse.

id fire wilks immediately primarily because he's proven to be a detriment… the sooner we fire him the sooner we can adjust to the new coordinator and be ready (hopefully) for the postseason

keeping wilks comes with a known outcome.

Being up there is not helping him. So what's the point of doing it. How about come down and get a pulse of your players? Interact with them find out what's going on.
It's amazing how they can't set the edge, the middle is wide open for runs and passes, they can't cover very well. They got some pressure today, but way less than one would expect considering the money spent on the DL. Rumors is they are looking for another edge rusher. Why, so this new person can underachieve?
GTFO!!!
The D looks like they quit.

What would our options be? Our defensive position coaches are "lifers" in their position. Any promotion would be like taking Tomsula and making him a head coach. Plus, guys like Shanny won't admit they made a hiring mistake mid-season. My pipe dream is we can poach Ulbrich from the Jets in the offseason
All opposing teams need to do is super basic dink-&-dunk throws to the outside, basic screens, and throws to the middle and that's it. Over and over and over. Feels like I'm watching a game from the 90's the way they're beating this defense. Oh and on 3rd and long you have an 80% chance of converting a first down.
