Fangio twice showed interest inbeing DC for the 49ers after that. The major issue is that Fangio is wedded to his 3-4 scheme that would require personnel changes on defense. Anyone primarily running a 3-4 isn't going to fit here.

It's not that.

One of the requirements for the new DC was to stick with the wide-9 scheme.

Fangio runs a 3-4 defense and wasn't willing to change his scheme.

3-4 has to be better than what we are doing now

Except we don't have the personal to run it.

3-4 requires the pass rush come primarily comes from the outside linebackers, not the defensive line.

When Fangio was here, the bulk of our rush came from Aldon (before his alcohol issues) and Ahmed Brooks.

We don't have a big defensive linemen like Isaac Sopoaga to plug the middle, and we don't have an end like Justin Smith, who was capable of tying up a linemen to free up Aldon or just bull-rush over a lineman.

Bosa would be wasted in a 3-4.
we have the 4-3 personnel... that's where we belong right now... our COACHES just suck..
Should pick up the phone and call Zimmer. Not sure what his contract is with Colorado but it would be worth a shot

It was rumored that he was going to join Deion at Colorado but then it just never happened apparently.

I still think it's unlikely that they replace Wilks but if they did and ended up replacing him with Zimmer, that would be turning a frown upside down.

If they don't fit wilks, then get a co-DC or something.
Big changes need to happen during the bye week. New CB, another LB, RB and possible new Defensive Coordinator.
We need a fatty.

Hard to think that happens mid season
Unfortunately, this.

The 2012 Ravens fired their OC in early December after falling to 9-4.

They let Jim Caldwell (their QB coach at the time) take his place and they went on to win the Super Bowl (against us )

It's rare. But it does happen.

That because John Harbaugh had balls.

Interesting thought, what does Lynch think of Wilks? Lynch is a HOF'er who obviously understands defensive philosophy, coaching and execution. I would love to hear his honest off the record thoughts of what's happening.

John Harbaugh definitely one of those coaches who doesn't give a s**t and would do whatever it takes for the team. F**k feelings. The thing I see is that there's no more stunts, no more creative ways to get to the qb and make opposing olinmen work harder, move and think like Ryans and Saleh called. It's just flat out 1-1 beat your guy. No tricking offenses nothing, guys like Taylor, Oconnell, McVay, Pederson in 2 weeks will eat Wilks alive. Only way Wilks is saved is if the offense wakes up and puts up 30 quickly making teams desperate cutting off their running game
