It's called reality, I'm not gonna say a hire is a bad hire after 5 good weeks and 1 or 2 (or 3) bad ones

Try 3 good weeks and 5 bad ones. Because the Rams and Cards weren't talented enough to exploit the issues doesn't mean things were good.

99 yard drive to Cards.
That's much closer to reality maybe a little generous.

let's take a look around the NFL

I see a DC who gave up 70 in one game
seventy!

if I am correct, that dude, didn't get fired
he's still DC
they just won and held KC to 9

it's a long season, redemption is only a week away, (or two weeks, in this case )

Dude you must be the most saddest anti9er person I have ever seen ..Mr Sunshine himself.

what does that even mean? I'm feeling like we can turn this around with what we got. Like KS is talking about. the sadsacks are the ones betting we will lose out, I'm betting we won't, far from it

Zero chance if the D keeps playing like they are.

Exactly.

Here's the remaining schedule

  • @ Jacksonville
  • vs Tampa Bay
  • @ Seattle
  • @ Philadelphia
  • vs Seattle
  • @ Arizona
  • vs Baltimore
  • @ Washington
  • vs LA Rams

We're currently 5-3.

The next five games will make or break the season. That Seattle/Philadelphia stretch is brutal.

if shanny thinks like 49ersfaithful6, we are losing every single one of these games

7-10

that opening set the tone, guys have to execute better

so it's the players fault and not the coaches, lol

shanny may have already lost the locker room

Everyone says he loses the locker room every year. He hasn't lost anything.

Wilkes on other hand.

he said the tackling in general in the first half was bad

did he even say anything about doing a better job coaching? probably not
Moving the ball on this defense is pretty easy. That's scheme, not personnel. A players-only meeting in order. The players need to completely disregard what Wilks calls and do what they think is best. As a coach myself that's a hard thing for me to suggest, and I've never advocated for that (though I know it happens). But at this point I don't think the players have much of an option, especially if Shanny won't fire this guy.

Every team other than Arizona, the Rams and TB are playing well. Even Washington could surprise thus team the way they're playing now.

So one bad/unluckyish play was enough to cripple this defense for an entire game?

Sounds pretty mentally fragile, which is very, very concerning for what is supposed to be a Super Bowl contender…

He's not failing to acknowledge it, he thinks Wilks is legit a good coach.

I want to know what this "pretty good track record" is.

Was it when he failed miserably as HC of the Cards and the defense he installed took them from Top 10 rushing defense in the NFL to dead last?

When he was let go by the Browns after a year?

When Missouri fans were happy to see him leave after his short stint as DC led to one of the program's worst defensive outputs in its history?

The only time that you can argue that he looked good is when he had Ron Rivera, a very well accomplished defensive coach looking over his shoulder.

Wow I didn't know he failed at Missouri.

It was an absolute disaster and for some reason Matt Rhule chose to bring him back to the NFL to be the Panthers secondary coach.

His defenses often get their doors blown in but he's really, really good at taking responsibility after each miserable performance.

That was a game where Mizzou allowed 519 yards of total offense, including 340 yards on the ground. And that caused plenty of frustration among Tigers fans, specifically toward the direction of 1st-year defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

"I take full responsibility for the performance last week," Wilks said on Tuesday, according to Dave Matter. "[It] wasn't to our standard. Not even close. I've got to do a better job."

Those excuses sound familiar. Giving up 340yds rushing has to be some kind of record. Poor defense is his MO.

So what you're saying is... no 3rd round compensatory pick this time?
