I supported Saleh & Ryans when the D had some struggles in some stretches, but this feels monstrously different. I can't support Wilks based on what I've seen. It's not an issue of a few calls I didn't like, it's total team collapse on defense.
Guys are fundamentally unprepared, the scheme has them constantly out of position, and myself as a football intellectual but not an NFL coach am so easily able to point out severe issues pre-snap almost all game for the past two weeks. The play-calling has been horrific.
This team has never looked like this. We have far superior talent than we did under Ryans and Saleh now, and the amount of WTF mistakes and astonishingly bad play calls and situational incompetence is absolutely unconscionable. His scheme is a terrible transition away from what we did best. This isn't growing pains of a rookie DC, this is just flat out ineptitude.
You Nailed it but until Stubborn as a Goat make a change this season is down the drain
The worst part is there's nothing we can do, staff wise, outside of stripping playcalling duties. And I don't think that's gonna happen. Wilks isn't a play-caller. He's been really bad everywhere he goes, but he talks a good game and tricks people into continuing to give him chances apparently. Unfortunately we fell for it.
I see no scenario he's retained unless we manage to go all the way and win a Super Bowl. Seems like no chance of that now.
Unless Wilks reads a 4-3-4 style defense for dummies book over the bye and rolls back his idiotic changes while giving the play-calling to someone else, we're gonna keep getting steam-rolled on D, IMO.
