If they don't move on from him now during the bye highly unlikely they move on from him this season.

They ain't moving on from him during the season, so I don't know exactly how he has a short leash. Over the bye week he needs to study the film from the past 2 seasons, study the playbook, and figure out how to do that. It wouldn't even matter if we were able to add Surtain with the way Wilks has been calling plays.
I say let Fred call the plays.
when all is said and done this guy will go down in 49ers history as the coach who single-handedly destroyed a superbowl team

Very interesting. One thing he mentioned that's gone through my head a little is Wilks being in the booth and not on the field. I always thought being in the booth would be better but that one-on-one with the players is missing. Demeco and Saleh would get fired up on the sidelines and greet his players as they came off the field which in turn would fire up the players. There was a higher level of energy that I think was contagious.

actually, quite the contrary I learned from Matt Maiocco today. the players on defense making plays is what would fire up the D coordinator. difference is he was on the sideline so they all got to interact with it

He's not failing to acknowledge it, he thinks Wilks is legit a good coach.

I want to know what this "pretty good track record" is.

Was it when he failed miserably as HC of the Cards and the defense he installed took them from Top 10 rushing defense in the NFL to dead last?

When he was let go by the Browns after a year?

When Missouri fans were happy to see him leave after his short stint as DC led to one of the program's worst defensive outputs in its history?

The only time that you can argue that he looked good is when he had Ron Rivera, a very well accomplished defensive coach looking over his shoulder.

Wow I didn't know he failed at Missouri.

It was an absolute disaster and for some reason Matt Rhule chose to bring him back to the NFL to be the Panthers secondary coach.

His defenses often get their doors blown in but he's really, really good at taking responsibility after each miserable performance.

That was a game where Mizzou allowed 519 yards of total offense, including 340 yards on the ground. And that caused plenty of frustration among Tigers fans, specifically toward the direction of 1st-year defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

"I take full responsibility for the performance last week," Wilks said on Tuesday, according to Dave Matter. "[It] wasn't to our standard. Not even close. I've got to do a better job."

So what you're saying is... no 3rd round compensatory pick this time?

LOL 😆
not for this guy

Yikes! Why on earth would Kyle even hire this guy In the first place?
They are punting this year.

This exactly. I don't get why it would be so hard to talk to the other coaches and find out what was done the previous three years that he's not doing now. Watch the film and see what was done. It's so frustrating that the answer to the test is right there and for some reason he's not using the resources.
What are realistic options? Seems like we're stuck with him until the off-season.

Sucks because it's going to be a wasted year.

kyle really f**ked up with this hire.
Sometimes I wonder if Richard Sherman will ever want to be a DC. He just seems incredibly smart - regarding football and in general. Also relates well to today's players and could have some progressive, creative ideas to combat today's offenses.

He had all off season to do that. You expect him to now do it over the bye week? Nah it ain't gonna happen. We're stuck with his s**t scheme until the offseason.

Kyle is gonna have to put on a master class to make up for this s**t hire.
