We have all been sitting here waiting for news to break he's out, but kyle isn't going to make a change. Maybe at end of season and that's a big MAYBE.

Can't even imagine him being retained if this trend continues.
I don't expect a change midseason, but in the offseason…

Honestly, legit question.
Did anyone have any faith the defense was going to stop the Bengals after we scored that last TD to get it to 24-17?
I didn't, and that is something I didn't expect to say this year.

Last two games have been just praying for a stop. Quite the fall from grace.

Yea It's been brutal. Would love to see some adjustment in our offensive philosophy to try and increase our margin for error defensively. Not super confident it's going to improve significantly on its own.

I feel claims this is a dark ages of 49er football D, are greatly exaggerated!
did we see what we did vs DAL?, comp that to how LAR looked
Dude I don't care about the stats, save that b******t for the sight challenged. This defense is letting opposing offenses do whatever they want on a weekly basis. This is the worst I've seen them look since the Tomsula days. Every week it gets a little bit worse. There's not a single thing that they are doing well at this point.
This is arguably the most talented defense we've had (personally I preferred last year's group due to role players like Azeez, Omenihu, Ebukam, and Willis.) and the last several weeks have been awful.
I agree with Phoenix. Stats don't tell the whole story here.

I'm sure that plays a role. Saleh and Ryans were fiery, Wilks isn't. I don't think that's the primary reason, but it's part of what has changed this season.
They seem to be playing uninspired, and given that the fiery, emotional coach is the only only experience many on the D have ever had in the league, I think it could be part of the problem. There's a lot to be said for the ra ra.

Remember when the Ravens dumped their Offensive Coordinator late in the 2012 season then won the Super Bowl?
Not saying this is a good reason to dump Wilks but if the team is good enough, which the 49ers are, can still make a deep run. If this was 2018, waiting until the off-season would make sense.

I'd be surprised if Wilks is fired, but if he is, I can't see anyone other than DB coach Daniel Bullocks being a fit.
Bullocks is a former player and I have to imagine is absolutely shuddering in disgust over some of the stuff Wilks has called. Bullocks has been here for 7 years now and has over 10 years of coaching XP now. I'd let him have a chance if the sputtering continues, but my fear is they ride it out.

The reasons why I'm not excited about him becoming DC. They always look to promote internally and he didn't even seem to be a consideration, not with the 49ers or elsewhere in the league despite having worked on a top defensive staff since 2019. That to me speaks volumes. I also don't think you want to drop a first time coordinator in the midst of all of this, with all those expectations on their shoulders and without even the benefit of a full offseason in prepping for the role.
I think it either needs to be someone really experienced and accomplished that can step into the role with minimal prep time or stick with Wilks, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Johnny Holland, the linebackers coach, would be the only other one. He's been coaching since 99 and has been with us since 2017.

I'm on the Mike Zimmer or bust bandwagon for these reasons:
-20 years experience as a defensive playcaller in the NFL. If anyone could come in and steer this ship in the right direction, it's him. During his time as a DC/HC he had ten Top 10 defenses.
-He's primarily run a 4-3 scheme that emphasizes stuffing the run, "being ahead in the count" and playing fast at all times. He's done a great job dialing up creative blitzes and finding ways to keep the pressure on quarterbacks. Guys like Warner, Bosa, Hargrave and Ward are perfect fits for what he likes to do.
-Klint Kubiak worked under him in Minnesota so there's some familiarity there already.
If he was interested in the job and they want to move on from Wilks, he's my choice hands down. No one better out there right now whose scheme most closely matches the personnel.
