Part of the problem with Shanahan firing Wilks is going to be swallowing his ego, because Shanahan hired the guy.
Shanahan needs to realize that without his dominating defense, he's nothing.
Plain and simple.

This is true. Shanahan has had dominating defenses that mostly carried this team. This was his crutch. Without his crutch, he's falling all over the place.

I'm on the Mike Zimmer or bust bandwagon for these reasons:
-20 years experience as a defensive playcaller in the NFL. If anyone could come in and steer this ship in the right direction, it's him. During his time as a DC/HC he had ten Top 10 defenses.
-He's primarily run a 4-3 scheme that emphasizes stuffing the run, "being ahead in the count" and playing fast at all times. He's done a great job dialing up creative blitzes and finding ways to keep the pressure on quarterbacks. Guys like Warner, Bosa, Hargrave and Ward are perfect fits for what he likes to do.
-Klint Kubiak worked under him in Minnesota so there's some familiarity there already.
If he was interested in the job and they want to move on from Wilks, he's my choice hands down. No one better out there right now whose scheme most closely matches the personnel.

Standing this guy in a different physical location won't fix things. LOL. Wow. What desperation. Fire immediately. New defensive coordinator. The same garbage calls and scheme from the sideline. No thanks. Richard Sherman was totally roasting this guy. Listen to his interview.
He's old and not exactly...spry.
He might rupture an Achilles if he...wait...he probably won't have anything to celebrate so never mind.
He is only 54.

The offense prior to these couple of weeks was averaging over 30ppg
If he had a QB worth a crap instead of Jimmy for all those years then offense would've been much better. Just look at how the offense looked with a 7th round pick for about a dozen games.
Bad takes.

So all of a sudden when the offense plays bad because coaches have figured them out, the defense plays bad too? This is a coaching problem. With this team, they have to score 30+ points to win now with Wilks. Before, they could win scoring less.

Is Mike Zimmer available?

Yep exactly. Shanahan's success with this team was with a dominating defense. He can't play his style of football without it.
Shanahan needs to realize he messed up and fire Wilks. Promote Kris or Daniel and move on.
