Like for this game we go up 27-7 late in the 3rd. So what you expect the defense to do is put the Pressure on the Bucs, and even if you let them score a TD, you make them earn it on a long drive that takes us pretty far into the 4th quarter.

What happens though is 5 Plays, just over 2 minutes, and a TD given up making it a close game with a lot of time in the 4th.

lol, and you focus on that one? come on, we saw that, it was Huf going down major. Then Brown steps in and gets beat. That's not a Wilks issue, that's a player injury issue, and a rook having a trial by fire.

notice next
17 play drive from Tampa, and they scored 0 points
read that sentence again,

then INT by the rook (following drive), then TO on downs (final drive), so they ran 27 plays and got 0 points,

I think many of us just expect more because we heard before the season how dominant this D was going to be after adding Hargrave. That was before they added Gregory and Young. Then they started slowly (especially Bosa) and are still ranked low in sacks given the talent they have. Pressures are great. Sacks are better. Imagine if they had added a couple of top 5 O lineman and a WR like Hill or Chase. People would want the offense to be scoring 40 points per game.

I think it's a little bit of everything. Summary = everyone underperforming from wilks down to most of the players. They are improving the last couple of weeks but still suspect imo.

Sacks aren't there because the coverage is so soft.

we had 4 sacks, including a ball out sack, recovered by the good guys

Talent is elite. That will happen.

Playing 10 yards off ball on 3rd and 6 however makes it too easy.

To be fair when Demarco was here and Saleh they'd put the defense in soft coverage in the 4th when we were up in games. Keep everything in front of them and don't allow big plays type of defenses. This allowed points scored but also took time which was the goal. Aside from that one drive you pointed out Wilks did the same thing. And is Wilkes to blame or was a player out of position? I know J Brown was cooked on one play.

you know what else is too easy, getting this off pro football reference: Points Against: 157 (15.7/g) 1st of 32

that's the #1 ppg against, in the KS era
better than Saleh (19.4), better than Ryans (16.3)

we are moaning about the #1 D in the NFL and in the KS era

we are top 5 in yards/attempt allowed

so i dont see how coverage is soft. It seems to be only "soft" when we have a 2 score lead late in the game and want the opponent to run out the clock for us

now there you go, that's the old allow them to get 17 plays, and 0 points, classic bend don't break,
smart adjustment, after they just flew down the field, this is the kind of stuff ppl were preaching at the end of half vs MIN, understand your situation
He reverted back a bit to his scheme yesterday. Too many predictable coverages. Jaguars game plan looked more like a Demeco kind of game with the disguised coverages and switching it up right at the snap. And more stunts on Dline.

Yesterday not so much. You can't play off coverage behind the first down marker every time it's 3rd and mid-long. So many easy conversions on third down with receptions right at the sticks. Then you had that 3rd or 4th down play when Bucs were in red zone area and you have Ambry Thomas playing like 8 yards off Mike Evans. All he had to do was run a drag across the field and there was no way Ambry could cover that distance since he was playing so far off. Easy first down. You have to be more aggressive and have the DBs getting hands on the WRs on these third down plays and make them beat you. Getting hands on receivers can also allow some more time for pass rush to get there by throwing the receivers route timing off. Wilks needs to clean up this play calling, especially on 3rd downs. Stop reverting to your scheme and run more of what the Niners D has been running last few years. Don't fix what isn't broken.

You'd see something like that in film, not by citing statistics. We have feasted on some pretty terrible offenses this year so far and that can paint a statistical picture that isn't necessarily accurate to their capability.

This is not the #1 D in the Shanahan era.
