Coach - Steve Wilks thread

He has gotten out schemed two weeks in a row. The d line looks like a shell of what it should be. I don't think they should bring Wilks back next year. Not a good fit.
He's got to step it up for the SB. The defense came out super flat and vanilla. Lions knew exactly where to attack the predictable base defense. Whereas the Lions' defense mixed it up early to confuse our offense.

I don't see it that way. Dan Quinn got outschemed. They gave up 40+ and lost. We gave up 21 and won. Dre had 2 picks. We had the key 4th down stop. We had red zone stops in the first half. It was bend don't break. We were facing an O that was pretty unstoppable from midseason on. We then face DET, with a ton of talent and an OC perhaps moving on to be HC, and we struggle half 1, it was a near 2nd half shutout, with the key turnover, multiple 4th down stops. We don't win either game without the D coming up big in key moments.

Ask yourself how we have no personnel up front to run stuff, and we are facing a great RB duo and OL, and we shut em out for 29 mins to start the 2nd half.
Not thrilled at the prospect of this guy going up against Reid

By who? MVS? Get outta here
We absolutely can't play defense like that and build a deep hole against the Chiefs. Wow we need to play better. Hope he can fix it in 2 weeks. There are enough players. It's got to be scheme and coaching. No way there is not enough talent on that defense.
All that money on the defensive line, and Chris Jones will still probably end up outshining every single one.

Is it coaching or talent?

Will the Chiefs Oline be allowed to hold?

No, it's lack of talent, particularly with a glaring weak spot of DT. Hargrave, AA coming off his injuries and Kinlaw they are all subpar run defenders. So we can get pushed around up front, and not a whole lot we can do about it. Easy to coordinate, when you can just line up 4 guys, and they can maul the OL and get home on pass downs, and blow up run downs. We don't have that, not even close. We are better on pass downs, as Gregory, Young, Hargrave and Bosa are all better on pass downs imo. Winning on 3rd downs will be key also in red zone.

Compare C Jones, who is maybe the best interior DL with AA dealing his with foot injuries, Hargrave who's no run defender, and Kinlaw. I would give up assets to trade all 3 of our guys, for their guy.

AA and Hargrave are pretty good but as you pointed out they have both been hurt. When that happens the coaches need to do something to compensate.

MVS will probably not get a ton of targets he will get that one or two targets tho, that are like 40-50 yds downfield. He's about 6'5 with speed, so he's built to be a deep threat. When BAL walked up DBs to run stuff at the end, MVS had the catch to effectively end the game.

Not much you can do, vs DET, we were walking up our DBs, and daring Goff to beat us. Which was the correct move, but you probably can't or shouldn't replicate that vs Mahomes. We may just have to accept Pacheco will probably get his, just try and contain him, get KC to 3rd downs, and keep em out of the endzone.

His postgame interview with Maiocco was telling. Said he saw his guys at halftime in the locker room, and knew right then and there they were going to win. WTF ?! No talk about game adjustments, no comments on what they changed. Just talking about players doing their job and everything fell into place.

Now tell me….does that sound like a guy that's going to sit in the labs and come up with a defensive scheme of his lifetime to stop Mahomes ? Or more likely just go with the same vanilla schemes and hope his players make a play ?

What did Bosa say again in his post game presser? That the defense felt helpless !

Wilks is the reason we're not blowing teams out. We've been playing catchup ever since the Ravens game. Nothing's gonna change except the upcoming blowout at the hands of Mahomey and Co.
