I caved this out in the preseason. There's no leadership from the DC side on top of the horrendous play calls. Is there an assistant who's still on the team from last year in case we need to cut Wilks loose ?

Just don't have that fire and swag we had when those 2 were leading the d
Wilks is in the booth and out of touch

Exactly.

The team fed on this. Instead, we have a defense coordinator who prefers to be in the booth to separate himself from some of the emotion on the field.

Give me a break.
All season long there's been receivers wide open across the middle of the defense. Not giving up more points has mostly been due to bad QBs missing easy layups. I was hoping that the issue was players needing to get more comfortable with the scheme and settle in but at this point I think the scheme just doesn't fit the talent that is on the roster.

This is bend and then break as you have a playcaller calling defense for the players he wishes he had and not maximizing the talent of the ones he does have.
I wonder how many of those illegal contact penalties we've had on blitzes.
BRING IN Leslie Frazier !!!

Agreed about the D talent being better this year with the addition of Hargrave. The results on the field should show up more than they are.

Wilks has me scratching my head so far this year, especially after seeing the D previously under Ryans and Saleh.

Hate sharing this dude, but Greg Williams' is exactly who I thought of in this spot.
Not a great night, especially that call at the end of the half, but they only gave up 22 points despite the offense turning the ball over 3 times. Hard to win when your QB keeps throwing it to the other team.

This has a lot to do with it. Celebrating with your leader, who just called the right play while you executed it does a ton to juice players up. Instead, they have small celebrations with some teammates. This juice a leader brings is infectious and it's showing on both of these coaches current teams. There's more to being a coordinator than just calling the right play. And that's literally all he is doing, is calling the plays.

They didn't force a punt until 9 minutes left in the game. Regardless of the scoreboard, that was an absolute ass whopping for the defense.
Not stopping the run, not getting sacks, having guys continue to be open to keep extending drives…this D looks lost!

Too much talent out there to not be performing better on D.

The goal is ultimately not to give up points and they did that for the most part despite the turnovers on offense. Again, not a great night, but they didn't lose the game.

3 possessions in a half.

We're efficient, but that's asking a lot.

While true, that call changed the game.

Going into halftime down 10-7 is a lot different then 16-7.

It was ultimately the difference in the game.

A play like that should never happen. Your entire goal in that situation is to keep everything in front of you and keep the clock moving.

It was one of the worst called defensive plays I've ever seen.
