Literally the worst defensive performance in 22 years.....That defense then got worked through the first half of the next game against the Rams. They came out at halftime vs the Rams and became one of the best defenses in the league(save for a weird Raiders game where they gave up 34 points to Jarrett Stidham) Nov-Jan.

No reason to panic here.

I'm definitely panicking about our scheme/play calling. It sucks. While the personnel is still top 10.

i just finished talking to one of customers who was a former LB for the Texans a few years ago. Not a big name player but lasted 4 years in the NFL before his knee injuries caught up to him.
I asked him plain and simple what's up with the Niners defense.
He said the players are playing the scheme that the DC calls. The DC is not making the in game adjustments that are needed and has no freaking clue why the hell Bosa is out in the flat. Not much players can do on the field unless it comes from the DC.
I know it's everything everyone is saying but thought I'd share it.

Thanks for sharing Cali2...

... as I often say, getting too cute is always a negative.. I did remember Bosa covering the flat on a play or 2.. and I even said to myself that what stupid QB would not LOVE to see Bosa covering anyone instead of RUSHING THE PASSER..

Basic extension of the HC when it comes to looking pretty !!

Top 3 on talent. They are above the top 5. Maybe even #1 on talent. But they sure don't get results.

I had more confidence in Ryans than Wilks

Seems like Kyle didn't want another young guy he'd have to oversee as much. Wanted a veteran so he could focus elsewhere. Also someone who'd keep the wide nine. I was 50/50 on this dude. He bombed in AZ but who doesn't. But he's never been that impressive where he's went. Hoping for the best.

HOW stupid is that.. ..what does AGE have anything to do w/being a good coordinator.. When he himself got a chance to be one as a young coordinator just because of Daddy Mike..

Wasn't Meco young ??

Read between the lines of what the players are saying now. They absolutely despise the scheme.

The Bosa comments can be viewed as a bit of a red flag. Lil odd to see that in public, we are not usually that club. Any other remarks from other players?

Bosa stated that "we have always been a rush 4 team". We have blitzed 25% or more in 3 of our 7 games this season. Called a house blitzed at the absolute worsed time to call a blitz. Kirk was 7 of 9 for 134 yards and a TD vs the blitz. There needs to be a whole lot of self scouting during the bye week for both Shanny and Wilkes.

Yeah I would say Bosa's been around the block enough to know what he was doing in the postgame remarks, likely a veiled shot
Wilks would be wise to work with Nick, you can't run this D without your top asset on board, they'll figure it out

can someone tell BOSA to just get to the QB??

Had he and AA gotten to the QB the way they are paid to be, then maybe.. just may be... those passes would not have been COMPLETED!!
Gym Shorts would have been perfect for this defense but he was picked up before Ryans was hired as HC of Houston.

No that was a good post. Sure us fans are noticing it, but coming from an ex-player's mouth that's discouraging to hear even more as a fan.

Wilks is not the guy, he just thought he could come in here with this talent and breeze back to a head coaching job. We noticed things here and there when the season started, but now teams are just picking this defense apart. Somethings gotta change or be added!!!

I think there's a world of difference between a first time DC struggling to find his way versus a guy whose results have continually been more mediocre then good. I'm seeing the same things with the 49ers and a regression in the defense that happened in Arizona when Wilks replaced Todd Bowles's scheme with his own and suddenly the Cardinals couldn't stop the run, the defense couldn't get off the field and receivers were running wide open all over the place. I remember Cards fans consoling each other that it was still early and these were just growing pains and that the defense would turn it around.

Not only did the defense not turn it around, things got worse. In one season they went from being ranked 6th to 20th defensively and the run defense was ranked dead last in football. In general, every defense that Wilks has called has had great difficulty in stopping the run.

This. I had a bad feeling when this guy was picked up. Then I thought, I was just being a negative Nancy and Kyle knows what he is doing..right?

We know Brock helped kick out Jimmy and Trey..maybe he can help kick this guy out too. Haha. Use that clout Brock, talk to Shanny, he loves you. LFG, do it, haha.

niners are basically doomed this season
"Hey Coach (Kyle)"
"Ya, Brock?"
"You love me right?"
"Absolutely Brock, completely, you know I do."
"We gotta get rid of Steve, he is costing us, I can't do it all man."
"Well, I believe you can do it all but I know what you mean. You're right..I am in talks with him. If this guy craps the bed two more times..he's outta here, ok?"
"Maybe he goes sooner than that."
"Yeah"
"Because you love me, right?"
"I will always love you"
He's going to tank the season. We are finished with this. No chance at all. You can't win with a defensive scheme this bad.
