Thought this guy was a secondary guru but our corners are getting cooked

Truth. They were better last year with Demeco. The only real change from last season to this season in the secondary is at slot.

Read between the lines of what the players are saying now. They absolutely despise the scheme.

The Bosa comments can be viewed as a bit of a red flag. Lil odd to see that in public, we are not usually that club. Any other remarks from other players?

Bosa stated that "we have always been a rush 4 team". We have blitzed 25% or more in 3 of our 7 games this season. Called a house blitzed at the absolute worsed time to call a blitz. Kirk was 7 of 9 for 134 yards and a TD vs the blitz. There needs to be a whole lot of self scouting during the bye week for both Shanny and Wilkes.

can someone tell BOSA to just get to the QB??

Had he and AA gotten to the QB the way they are paid to be, then maybe.. just may be... those passes would not have been COMPLETED!!

yeah....tell 4 guys to beat 7 guys blocking them with an 8th chipping them.....while the DB's play 5 yards off their guys..... Its 90% the scheme.

He's going to tank the season. We are finished with this. No chance at all. You can't win with a defensive scheme this bad.

I mean we can and have won games, but we're not making the SB without significant changes to our scheme.

Trying to be more realistic I still see them making the playoffs but I can't see them beating the Eagles. At least not from what I see from each team now. The Eagles front line and defense overall is playing like we expected the Niners to play.

I think Wilkes may have over complicated the system that DeMeco left behind. It either will not work, or will take some time to work. Wilkes has added to what was there and in doing so may be overthinking it. As far as playcalling, blitzing at the end of the half is an example of overthinking it. He should ask for feedback from the players. If they want to continue to have a thick playbook, then the reward may be there later this season. But if the players think they should simplify some things, then do that in an effort to regroup and get back to things that has worked with this group (all four man fronts, less blitzing, zone dominant).

Go up against good teams with great passing and we will get torched. We can't get to the passer and we can't cover anything. With the best talent in the league. The only thing playing well is the LB's. Warner and Greenlaw.

Agreed. Our defense needs to be playing at maximum potential in order to have a chance. Obviously by doing this we would be in every game. Even then I don't think our o-line can handle the Eagles d line so its looking murky.

This is what I would like to see. On top of that, I would like to see better tackling. What happened to everyone swarming to the ball carrier?

Honestly think our offense can beat their D, especially if healthy.

If we can't stop the run, and give up easy completions to a QB who isn't normally going to slice and dice a defense through the air, the absolute best result we could hope for is a shootout.

We have a long time to get these issues corrected and improve. It very well may cost us seeding in the process though.

When you got big boys like Jordan Davis, Fletcher Cox and Jalen Carter in there they give your defense a fighting chance. Well at least the DE's have a chance to do their job. Trying to see Drake Jackson set the edge then get ran over doesn't help the LB's at all either. Either get a big boy to help with the overall defense or get Surtain to give QB's something to think about.

Zones will help with that. Can't swarm ball carriers when everyone is rushing and/or has their back turned to the play. We see Warner and Greenlaw still in the picture but that's because they are exceptionally fast for the position.
We're stuck with Wilks for the year. There is no one internal that can take over and do better.

Also need to remember this game happened on Oct 23. Oct 23rd of 2022 DeMeco Ryans's defense gave up 42 points to the Chiefs whilst also ranking 372nd out of 372 games in DVOA. Literally the worst defensive performance in 22 years.....That defense then got worked through the first half of the next game against the Rams. They came out at halftime vs the Rams and became one of the best defenses in the league(save for a weird Raiders game where they gave up 34 points to Jarrett Stidham) Nov-Jan.

No reason to panic here.

I'm definitely panicking about our scheme/play calling. It sucks. While the personnel is still top 10.

I had more confidence in Ryans than Wilks

Curious- DeMeco had 3 games last year that allowed quite a few more points that Wilks has in any game so far.

I just wonder why? Personally, I preferred Ryans defensive style for our team. He rarely Called man-cov cause we're not great at it.

They weren't asked to play man-cov hardly at all last year.

I keep seeing this weird narrative, "Wilks and all his zone is killing us". This guy plays man-cov probably 10 more snaps a game than Ryans did
