I think Wilkes may have over complicated the system that DeMeco left behind. It either will not work, or will take some time to work. Wilkes has added to what was there and in doing so may be overthinking it. As far as playcalling, blitzing at the end of the half is an example of overthinking it. He should ask for feedback from the players. If they want to continue to have a thick playbook, then the reward may be there later this season. But if the players think they should simplify some things, then do that in an effort to regroup and get back to things that has worked with this group (all four man fronts, less blitzing, zone dominant).

This is what I would like to see. On top of that, I would like to see better tackling. What happened to everyone swarming to the ball carrier?

One factor could be less zone coverage means less swarm tackling. Although some of the missed tackles have come on run plays which has less to do with man versus zone.

that's not what I see, we are tops in INTs in football
it's more we aren't getting home with the pass rush, and we are getting run on more than in the past

He's going to tank the season. We are finished with this. No chance at all. You can't win with a defensive scheme this bad.

I mean we can and have won games, but we're not making the SB without significant changes to our scheme.

Trying to be more realistic I still see them making the playoffs but I can't see them beating the Eagles. At least not from what I see from each team now. The Eagles front line and defense overall is playing like we expected the Niners to play.

Agreed. Our defense needs to be playing at maximum potential in order to have a chance. Obviously by doing this we would be in every game. Even then I don't think our o-line can handle the Eagles d line so its looking murky.

The eagles are going to smash us. Solely because they are bigger on both offensive and defensive lines.

Pass rush is a huge weakness somehow with Hargrave and Gregory.

Offensive pass blocking is garbage and run blocking we have no idea because we never uae our power back up the middle.

The dbs are the same as last year. Average... They need pass rush to cover up for their averageness which we are not getting.

Truth. They were better last year with Demeco. The only real change from last season to this season in the secondary is at slot.

They weren't asked to play man-cov hardly at all last year.

I keep seeing this weird narrative, "Wilks and all his zone is killing us". This guy plays man-cov probably 10 more snaps a game than Ryans did

If anything we need to play more zone, not man. Coverage wise Isiah Oliver has been pretty bad and Ferrell adds nothing to our pass rush. We really miss Ebukam and Omenihu imo

Zones will help with that. Can't swarm ball carriers when everyone is rushing and/or has their back turned to the play. We see Warner and Greenlaw still in the picture but that's because they are exceptionally fast for the position.

Right. Made my post without reading yours. I don't consider Huf and Gipson as good open field tacklers. I consider Warner and Greenlaw as two of the best. Playing a zone dominant scheme where Huf and Gipson are in charge of not giving up explosives while forcing the QB to throw into Warner and Greenlaw's area is a sound tactic that worked for Saleh/Ryans.

This. I had a bad feeling when this guy was picked up. Then I thought, I was just being a negative Nancy and Kyle knows what he is doing..right?

We know Brock helped kick out Jimmy and Trey..maybe he can help kick this guy out too. Haha. Use that clout Brock, talk to Shanny, he loves you. LFG, do it, haha.

Same, I didn't want to be negative about it but I hated so much of what I saw in him when he was with the Cardinals. He always had that meathead, fumbling for answers demeanor that reminded me of the worst of Tomsula and Singletary. I was hoping that maybe he had adjusted things and with Kyle's influence everything was going to be okay but even Cards fans are noticing the similarities in how their defense struggled under him and how the 49ers are suddenly letting teams drive up and down the field over and over and struggling to stop teams from gashing them with the run.

He is, and that's the scary part. His defenses have always f**ked off on defending the run but in Arizona they were at least somewhat decent against the pass, even if they were getting gashed by the run consistently. This defense is getting beat on the ground and through the air.

Kind of agree. Our man can really suck at times. But it feels like we don't collapse the zone fast enough. We just keep backpedaling and EVERYTHING is completed in front of us. I thought the idea of zone was to cover an area but swarm to players when they enter that area. We are not.

Yeah, imagine having Kyle's kryptonite in house?

We'd be unstoppable, and our offense would've been even harder to defend with all that training camp practice against Schwartz's scheme.

Kyle should override calls like that. Even the average Madden player knows better.

NON SENSE on Kyle's opinion... the only problem w/that play was that WARD did not hang on to the ball.. had he made an INT, then Kyle would not have said what he said..

what Kyle really need to SAY is .. " If we can get to the QBs sooner than soon because of we got a bunch of guys who should be getting there the way they are getting paid " ..

.. LET SEE IF HE'S GOT BALLS..
