I said what i said.

Yup. The stats are part of his history, but I wouldn't say cuz he did this in NYJ, that it's 'who he is' anymore than I would say NYJ Geno is who he is, or Nolan era Alex Smith, is who he is, and on it goes..

agree. I think people are remembering his rough start to his career.
he is young enough to continue to get much better.

I think many are doubting him because of his Jets days. He's improved considerably since his rookie year.

NinersNation had this review on his preseason:

Darnold had 33 attempts this preseason. He completed 22 of those. But get this, of those 11 incompletions, PFF considered all of them drops. He only put the ball in harm's way once, and proved capable of making throws when there's pressure in his face.

Darnold was consistently the first or second-best quarterback on the team, whether in a game or in practice. He has a history of failing under different circumstances, Sam won the job this offseason.

Lol, coming in wayyy hot on Darnold here. Welcome to the forum, Sam's relative.

yeah and Lance is out of town, cuz Sam is Rosen .. make it make sense ppl, Sam is probably the #1 QB2 in the NFL, or in that convo

Only if you base it on upside, not actual production.
Feels great, Sammy
I find it funny that everyone has been trashing Darnold ever since he came into the league but now all of a sudden are his biggest fans and have convinced themselves he is a different QB.

I don't want him starting/playing, I just think he's better than Lance. So does all the coaches. He isn't here to be a HOF player, he's here to be a competent starting qb if we need him.

if you understand how to look at an individual player and their responsibilities within their position and the system, then you realize that he's done a good job here in the preseason as a whole and apparently in practice as well.

if he does end up playing, hopefully it's just garbage time in a game we are dominating, I'm sure he would look the best he ever has with the talent and coaching we've surrounded him by.

You are ignoring 6 years of bad football because he looked decent in training camp and meaningless pre-season games this year?

Understand the level of expectation (for Darnold) he just presented to you in his post. He's a backup QB. What is the level of player you think the vast majority of teams have at QB2 around the league? What do you think is expected of a QB2? FFS, lol.

I understand that but that's not what some are saying. They think he is competent starting QB that can win games with him if Brock Purdy misses time. I am not convinced. I am not convinced that all of a sudden done putting the ball in harm's way. Purdy better stay healthy.

Sam is one of the best backups any team in this league can have, few back up players you'd take over him - if any, because of his fit with this system.

i also understand what a change in culture/coaching/talent can do for a young talented player. Prime example, Alex Smith - Alex had just as many turnovers (I think one less - might of actually been one more than Sam) as Sam has in his first 5 years. Alex's first year with Harbaugh (his sixth year - just like Sam is going into), he was a completely different player and a reliable game manager. That's what I anticipate with darnold if he has to play.

No I don't expect him to be a baller and/or challenge Brock for the job. Nor do I expect him to be as good as Brock. That isn't why he is here.
