Hahaha that is a pretty funny way to look at it.

darnold did make some badass throws this preseason. He also was the victim of some rough o line play and a lot of drops (I think I read 11 but idk how accurate that is). Couple that with quite a bit of penalties, I thought he did well and if he was with the first unit, I think a lot of that goes away and he gets some smoother drives and better opportunities.

Sam Darnold has been in the NFL for 5 seasons and has played in 56 games. Why are you using *only* his six game sample size from last year to compare him to Brock Purdy (a rookie) last year, and what does it prove ? Do you think Sam Darnold is who he was in six games last year.... or more closer to his actual career performances ?

For his career, Darnold averages almost exactly one pick per game played. This is not good.

In four out five years (excluding that 6 game sample size last year) Darnold has ranked in bottom 5 QBs in the league in terms of INT % each year
While not even cracking top 15 QBs for TD% once. And it's not like he had to air it out all the time, his attempts are low and he's never been a volume passer like Jameis Winston.

Sam Darnold played the same number of regular season games as Brock Purdy and put up better numbers in ypa/ypc and a lower INT rate. Darnold played on a significantly worse team than Brock who had Pro Bowlers at every skill position.

Did you discount Steve Young's career too because he struggled at Tampa Bay?

LMAO. Sure, then he played fifty more.

He played on the worst teams with the worst coaches who are out of the NFL. He put up better ypa numbers than Purdy last year despite a tanking Carolina team.

Darnold had the highest PFF ratings of the preseason for our QBs. Shannahan, widely considered the top offensive mind in the NFL, loves him and obviously sees something in him that non experts don't.

Oh sorry, just now realizing this is a troll job. It's early…

From PFF as summarized by 49erswebzone from the Chargers game:

"Sam Darnold was the highest-graded quarterback for either team, earning a 68.9 overall grade. Still, it was his lowest mark of the preseason. Darnold finished the game 6-of-11 for 89 yards and a touchdown."

"Brandon Allen was second among the 49ers quarterbacks, earning a 59.8 overall grade. He finished just 2-of-6 for 23 yards and an interception."

"Surprisingly, starter Brock Purdy was the lowest graded of any quarterback in the game, finishing with a 50.6 overall grade, his lowest of the preseason. Purdy finished the game 5-of-9 for 73 yards, adding five rushing yards and a rushing touchdown."

But his comp% was 10 points lower. It does make sense that he beat out Trey.

TREY not coming back... we all need to move on and deal with another Shanny's excellent BS decision.

Love it, just beautifully done by Darnold and Snead. Sam will be good while in San Francisco and under better coaching and surrounding talent. Whether he gets to play this year, next year, or somewhere else, he will be a better QB for having being here. Just getting his confidence back as a very talented and still young QB, is going to help him here or with any other team in the future.
