QB Sam Darnold is a Viking

overall Sam's stats have been some of the worst in the NFL for half a decade. 4 games doesn't magically change 50 other games. They ran the s**t out of the football in NC. They literally took the ball out of his hands as much as possible and overall asked him to make some easy reads. Who said he can make all the throws? There's plenty of examples of him missing at all levels of the field.

You act like Matt Ryan was awful before Kyle showed up, which simply isn't true. Schaub played in two games before kyle got him….so acting like he was a failure for half a decade like Sam is simply not true.

look I'm sure Sam's chances at playing his best football in his career here is good. That doesn't mean he's been a good QB all along. A LOT of is issues were because of him, not just everything around him.

Why you're trying to go to bat so hard for this dude is beyond me…you must be a USC fan or something. Even then he was pretty inaccurate and liked to turn the ball over.

Okay, he "did next to nothing" but had better stats than Purdy. He had 140 passes to Purdy's 160 passes in the regular season. They both played 6 full regular season games and yet Darnold still had a better ypa, CPOE, equal EPA, and a lower INT rate than both Purdy and Jimmy. His teams have been awful and the coaches have been sent back to college and high school. I don't even know which weapons he's had who are still playing football. Do you? What stats would Purdy put up in Gase's offense? Be serious.

Matt Ryan had average QB play until Shanahan turned him into an MVP. They almost won a Super Bowl together. Schaub played many games in Atlanta and he had a 71 RAT his last year there.

Have you seen Darnold's 2022 throws and why Kyle is so excited to have him? We haven't seen those throws in the 49ers offense for decades.

"Even then he was pretty inaccurate and liked to turn the ball over."

Purdy and Jimmy had worse CPOE than Darnold than last year. Purdy also had a higher INT rate than Darnold. Purdy had daily INTs this training camp (5% INT rate) compared to Darnold who had only 2 or 3 the entire camp.

team and coaching clearly matter, but a massive part of being a good QB comes on the shoulders of the actual QB. Shocking I know.

Darnold had better advanced stats than Purdy and Jimmy last year on a horrible team. A franchise QB should be able to make every throw, which Darnold can do. Shanahan turned Jimmy, Schaub Ryan into a top 5 QBs. Why can't he do the same for Darnold?

Heck if Darnold could produce like what he did last year for Carolina, this team is guaranteed a Super Bowl.

Maybe he could, but Kyle thinks Brock is better.

So? Even with that 2.8 RAT, he still had better advanced metrics than Purdy and Jimmy last year.

If Brock is better, why does Kyle call dumps and dinks for him instead of deep outs like he did for Darnold in the preseason?

I've never seen a more delusional Sam Darnold fan. WOW.

Darnold's arm talent isn't the issue. He doesn't feel the rush. He's just guessing at when it's getting there and panicks when he thinks time is out, whether it really is or isn't. Other times, he has no idea the rush has arrived and gets walloped, which is a big part of his astronomical turnover numbers.

Panicked throws or holding it too long = INTs and FUMBLES. That's Darnold. Athletic/arm talent, but just not NFL caliber game-sense. Outside of that, the decision making has been a problem since college. The "WTF" moments have never ceased. His propensity for inexplicable throws that you simply can't find even a sliver of justification for is pretty horrific.

Sam Darnold doesn't just make an honest mistake here or there, his turnovers are often downright LAUGHABLE. He will need to cut down on the WTF moments a lot to have his career turn around from here. Maybe he can, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ask Kyle.
I think he is better because I have seen them both play.

You started this account the day Trey was traded nd immediately started bashing Brock and calling for Darnold. That takes away from your credibility.

I am happy to have Sam as a backup and Kyle as the guy making decisions.

Has to be someone trolling I guess. Hard to imagine anyone this convinced that Darnold is better than Brock.

he doesn't need to ask Kyle, multiple posters provided all the film to prove his bs

Shanahan tested Brock's arm during training camp this year and he had a 5% INT rate. Why do you think he doesn't call deep outs for Brock in games?

Compare Darnold's 2022 highlights to Purdy's 2022 highlights. There is a clear difference in throwing ability between the two. You have to be delusional to think otherwise.

If Darnold can keep up his play like he did last year, the 49ers will be a much better team with him because he would unlock deep outs, posts and go routes for the team.

You do know that Darnold like Lance didn't play QB much in high school right? He had one year of full time QB play his senior year. He also only had 2 years at USC.

It's quite incredible that many here won't fault Lance for his inexperience but would for Darnold. He's only a few years older than Purdy for goodness sakes and probably has the same number of QB reps in games. Brock has 8 years of QB play while Darnold has 8 as well, 5 of those being in the punishing NFL.

Video evidence is BS? Darnold's highlighted 2022 throws were much more difficult than Purdy's last year.
