Waiting to hear someone say Lance lolol

I will say this. I have always maintained the belief that I have no idea how good Lance is or will be. But Darnold better go out there and prove the offense can be effective enough with him at the helm, or the Lance conversation is going to begin again....and rightfully so.

No idea what he will be? Ok sure.

No idea what he is? We know exactly what he is right now.

Yeah he is a high ceiling QB who is 23 and has 4 career starts. Thats what he is. Beyond that, no one knows anything.

LOL... you should start a SHANNY MUST GO thread for having the worst backup QB on the team in your opinion.

I'm not sure what any fan expects from the backup QB in the salary cap era. This isn't like the 80s when you could have a QB like Young backing up Montana. Backups are usually A) someone who was drafted to be a starter but failed for some reason B) someone who's a rookie and still being groomed. C) an old QB that's just hanging on for a payday. Darnold falls into the first category.

The answer is A. The answer to "failed for some reason" is he was on terrible teams (Jets, Panthers). Here he has talent around him to help him succeed just like he had at USC when he was made the #3 pick. Seems like he's been around forever but he's still only 26, I expect him to put up very similar numbers to Purdy if given the chance.

SWH, I recall debating you on the Lance trade logic, you were telling me there was no logic, as the trade was being finalized with the league and announced publicly. Let's try and come to terms with why KS would bail on his asset worth 3 ones. Here's a hint.. I think he may know something..

Steve Smith knows also, so does JTO, McCoy, Martz, one can go on..

I maintain the idea that there was zero logic in trading him.

His floor is so low he will never get on the field to do jack about the ceiling, that's a spoiler alert
Darnold is a better option, they competed for months, Sam > Lance, that's Shanny's determination, and very clear to anyone who bothered watching preseason

There's obviously no point. We had more than enough evidence to determine what he is as a player right now through his regular season appearances and preseason ones as well. He played pretty consistently on film. The coaching staff had much more information than that.

It is what it is. Another argument likely to be revised later.
Why did I mention the word Lance? LOL.

I sure hope Purdy doesn't push himself if he isn't ready to go on Sunday. Sam will have to show up and work some magic lol

I think there's a pretty good chance our offense can play well with Darnold. I just think it's going to require a conservative approach and that might not be enough against the Bengals offense, especially if our defense isn't on point.

I also am very thankful this is a home game, lol.

If Purdy isn't feeling 100% from the concussion, I am cool with Sam taking over for the game. He will have a chance to showcase why he was picked QB2. Just want BP to get better. Priority #1

If Darnold is clearly head and shoulders better than "he who shall not be named" of 49ers QBs, then we shouldn't have to play conservative with him at the helm.

I expect no training wheels with Darnold. and truthfully I'm more worried about our defense right now.

That doesn't make sense. There's a vast space between let it rip and being completely ineffective. Not every QB is capable of being an effective 'game manager'.

Maybe at this point but Darnold was flat out garbage at Lances age. Well he's historically been garbage but hey great hypocrisy.

Would be nice if we had a defense we could rely on
