Lots of stupid people out there, lamont.
People who want to be right about Lance.
It's always the same here.
That has absolutely nothing to do with my argument, if you're talking about what I said. The point I was making is that we don't have time to wait for a young guy to develop. If Brock doesn't turn it around and stop with these stupefying red zone picks, considering the more experienced guy becomes more and more of an urgent choice to make. This has nothing to do with being "right" about anyone, and everything to do with the urgency of our contract situations. The absolutely best case scenario is that Brock is a top ten guy on a bottom fifty salary. But the last three games he's played like a bottom third starter guy. That's not going to win us a Super Bowl, because it didn't when Jimmy was starting either. IF—
ONLY if, mind you, if if
IIIFFFF—Brock keeps throwing game losing interceptions, THEN we would be sabotaging our season not to consider putting in Sam.
If, on the other hand, Brock figures it out, then we'll be better off in the end. But we have maybe two or three more loses before we start needing events outside our control to even make the playoffs, let alone get a good seed. The time is NOW. The time was now before the Bengals, really, and he shat the bed again. He CANNOT s**t the bed any more. And if he does, there needs to be a leash.
Fan boyism for players is less important to me than being a fan of the red and gold. IF he's not performing, and he's hurting the team, as he has the last three weeks, he cannot be given infinite patience. Now with this team with these contract situations.
Of course, by the same token it would be foolish to switch too soon.
But the only thing more foolish than switching too soon is switching too late. I'd give him another game, and if he plays poorly again, he can remain the starter with a short leash going forward. And after that? We'd be criminally stupid not to put in Sam.
...
But, if he instead shows us that his previous games are really who he is, and these last few were just hiccups, then we have escaped with the draft steal of the millennium. That's what we all HOPE, woo. But hope in one hand and s**t in the other. Brock has to prove it on the field. What he accomplished before earned him the starting job and thus far three weeks of trash play. It earned him an extra game after that, and maybe another. Now he has to deposit some more funds in the account by showing it ON THE FIELD, and not in our hearts.
