Agree, and my preference is Allen vs Sam, to tell you the truth. On the college scene, the Draft Nerds and the preliminary indications are that Joe Milton III and Michael Pratt are 4th round QB prospects (same grade that the 49ers gave Brock) and so these guys might be 49er targets if they fall further than the 4th. We shall see.

I thought with the level of talent on offense, Darnold would be able to thrive in KS system, but even in just the few times we have seen him on the field he has been erratic.

Hopefully we never need him, but it would be nice to be able to rely on him if we did.

Damaged goods. If he had to play I think after 4-5 games he would be much improved in the offense which is why I think he would be a fine backup. Brock is an outlier brother, aka unicorn. Lets enjoy it while we can.

i'd still take him over jimmy g right now

Lol, both of these points are true.
Grant nailed it with his assessment of the washed up reclamation project who makes more than our MVP candidate.

Huh? No way man, I'm not a JG guy by any stretch, but we already know what he can do in our offense. In the limited action Darnold has seen, he looks worse than Mullens and Beathard.

I can't believe Rita used Sam Darnold's number on Brock Purdy!
Time to earn a Contract for Next year.

Grant is a dingbat and typically disingenuous.

the "makes more" take is ridiculous. at time of his signing it was not known when or if Brock would play again.

Agree. Brock is probably by far the most underpaid player in the league right now. He is in a rookie deal and can't negotiate a new deal. I don't think you can avoid paying a quality backup QB more money than Brock.

Signing Darnold was actually good, we at least know we have a QB that is better than Granpa Josh just in case our top 2 does the repeat performance from last year's NFCCG..

We needed a competent #2. Darnold is capable of being that guy.

Almost hope he bombs out on Sunday and hurts his market so we can bring him back at similar price or cheaper (without incentives)

I don't see too many starting jobs for Darnold next season. Maybe Atlanta but with Russell Wilson most likely to hit the market, I think he'll have first shot at all the teams looking for a starter. I see Darnold re-signing with Shanahan's team.

Would think Atlanta would target a QB in the draft as well.

Honestly don't think it's a matter of Darnold getting an offer to be a starter. That's not going to happen IMO. But he can get an offer to be a higher paid backup than we'd be willing to give him. We're entering into the territory nearly every team with a great QB resides… and that's not spending a lot on backup QBs. We did it last offseason simply because Brock was injured with questionable timeline and Trey was a donut.
Could've been Trey's breakout game.
