We needed a competent #2. Darnold is capable of being that guy.
Almost hope he bombs out on Sunday and hurts his market so we can bring him back at similar price or cheaper (without incentives)
I don't see too many starting jobs for Darnold next season. Maybe Atlanta but with Russell Wilson most likely to hit the market, I think he'll have first shot at all the teams looking for a starter. I see Darnold re-signing with Shanahan's team.
Possibly. He might also prefer to join a team in which the starting QB is more questionable.

IMO, he hasn't played enough to have changed the opinions many teams have of him
That's good for us!

He looked sharp in preseason and vs BAL.

Let him get a full game of reps. We don't need Purdy getting hurt and he needs some practice before we enter the playoffs. It's good.

Darnold is playing for two reasons
1) to be ready in case we need him (and I seriously hope it never comes to that)
2) to earn a spot next year, whether here or elsewhere

Trey Truthers concluded that Trey completely outplayed Darnold in preseason.

Thats Woolick cue to come in and rant about how lame it is to talk about QBs that are no longer here.

Let's get Slingin Sammy's thread active! I'm hoping he has a good game! I'd love to beat the brakes off the rams before the playoffs.
As much as I'd like to see him come back next year, and I know that's unlikely, but I'd like to see him get a nice contract and second opportunity somewhere.
by all accounts, he's been a great teammate and seems to be having a great time here. Probably the first time he's enjoying being in the pros since he was drafted. Imagine getting drafted and then traded to s**t show franchises. Lmao poor guy. Now he's with a first class place, top notch coaching, excellent locker room of guys and talent. Even if he isn't playing - he's making millions and enjoying going to work every day.

LMAO I'm hoping he has a good day but I'd like him back too. I Just don't expect us to be able to afford him.
but yeah, we signed darnold because we needed a quality backup and I think the team knew they were likely moving off of Lance (unless he made drastic improvement). We also wanted a guy that we thought we could get good enough play out if if Brock wasn't ready for the first few weeks.

Kyle said in the beginning of the season that Darnold was BETTER than Purdy in terms of all around play. I want to see what he was talking about.

Yeah I haven't seen anything yet to validate those claims.
I'm really hoping he is really good, because I would hate to completely dash any Super Bowl hopes if Purdy goes down again. At least give us a small chance to do it.

If Darnold can improve his processing the next couple of years to be near Brock's level ...we might have something 🤔

Really?^^ I can't believe Kyle said something like that. I could see him saying that Darnold was a better natural passer but All Around play, impossible.
Not that I would be surprised if Kyle said it either, I mean this "Darnold is the best thrower of the football in 49ers history." stupidity came from somebody else than Matt Maiocco let's be honest.
Kyle and his weird QB takes seriously.^^
