Kansas City basically got Mahomes for free. He free fell on draft day to number 10. Ouch.

Solomon Thomas at 3 anyone.

I think he actually wanted play time, and based on our injury situation over the years, it was a good bet, and as he says, guys are open here. So it's a great place to thrive. Brock was a hero coming back from what he had, and lacing em up every game. I still think just doing well in the brief moments, including preseason, and being on a winning team and great coaching situation, it probably helps his profile around the league. Not sure if enough to resume as QB1 on a team, maybe..

He didn't free fall at all. Most grades thought the Chiefs reached big. Obviously people completely missed on the evaluation for many teams.

I believe QB is the hardest position to evaluate.

Long snapper.
Darnold is the first QB of his draft class to reach the Super Bowl.

Maholmes was never that good of a prospect coming out of college. People knew he was special in throwing the football, but not sure if he was good in other aspects of the game such as processing.

Hindsight drafting is cringe.

I personally think that evaluation is overrated.. why not just trust what you see all year long in college?

here, for example, this is how I view the upcoming QBs and how I have them on my order list..

CALEB WILLIAMS - U need to draft 1st because even if he busts, there was more reason to draft him that NOT to draft him. (FIRST ROUND)

MICHAEL PENIX - He may not be ready in year one, but by year 3, he'll show some greatness.. (MID 1ST)

JJ McCARTHY - Don't expect him to be a savior, but he will be THAT in the future.. his football IQ reminds me of Rivers or Brees (LATE 1ST)

DRAKE MAYE - he's not spectacular game in and game out, he can get that job done... Eli is who this kid reminds me of (EARLY 2ND)

BO NIX - He's a game manager who happens to be very athletic.. I would not be surprise if the Rams take this kid to be their future (2nd ROUND)

JAYDEN DANIELS - he heads the top of my list of the MOST OVERRATED PLAYER in this draft.. NOT sure why all that HOOPLA..

SPENCER RATTLER - had Purdy NOT became what he is thus far, I see Shanny drafting Rattler late 2nd

JOE MILTON III - low football IQ is what drops him... I expect those Knee Biting Lions to move up early 3rd and draft this kid

JORDAN TRAVIS OR TUA II - It'll be nice to draft one of this guys late 5th and be our 3rd stringer..
I personally think that evaluation is overrated.. why not just trust what you see all year long in college?

Then proceeds to hate on the guy who had the best season and won the Heisman.

Excellent call!

Bro surpassed Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Lamar, and of course future Hall of Famer Josh Rosen.

He didn't "fall" to number 10, the Chiefs went up and got him at 10. As I recall, the chatter at the time was that most teams viewed Mahomes as a kind of project QB. There was hardly anyone who considered him to be the top prospect in the draft. The general consensus seemed to be that he was maybe the 4th or 5th rated QB in that class. If everyone had thought he was so hot, the Bears would have taken him at one, and he still wouldn't have ended up on our team. Kudos to the Chiefs for seeing the potential in him that others didn't.

Also, as has been discussed ad nauseum in here, Shanahan and Lynch had plan in place at QB that involved bringing in Kirk Cousins the following year, so they weren't really in the market for a starting QB, they were looking for a back-up. In the meantime. they were committed to trying to improve the defensive line, which they both felt needed to form the foundation of the team. Sucks that they missed on Thomas and Foster, but I can honestly say I have never spent one second thinking about the "what ifs" of drafting Mahomes. It's simply a pointless exercise. I prefer to think about the team we have rather than the team we might have had if only this that or the other thing had happened.
