Not saying he's Steve Young, but Steve Young certainly blossomed in a better environment

Darnold is very smart to come to sign with the 49ers. He probably could have gotten more years and more
money elsewhere but he knows if he gets a chance to
Play here, he is in the best possible situation to thrive and potentially get a lot more money next season and
quite possibly become a full-time NFL starting QB again.....

I would've rather given the 5 million or so to resigning Jimmie Ward. If we get to Sam Darnold the season is over anyway.

Not a bad signing. Don't get it from Darnold's point though. Why sign on day one for a 3rd string job. have no hope of getting a backup job? Or did we just pay so much he doesn't care?

More depth at the QB position. Sam Darnold understands he gonna be backing up Purdy & Lance . Plus Darnold is only 25. Compare that to Josh Johnson who was 36. Definitely an upgrade!

When you think about it, there was a time when Darnold was one of the guys with Josh Rosen people thought the Niners and Kyle would want in the 2018 draft. And finally they both ended as Niners but not the way you would think.
I guess Steve Wilks played a role in that signing.
I´m happy they didn´t take another statue. At least Darnold can scramble. Kyle needs mobile QBs in that offense.
I hope they still draft someone.

Guarantee you it was a cheap deal with incentives. I've always liked him and love this signing. He had the Panthers contending until he got hurt.
