I wouldn't worry too much about Oliver though. He had a 78 PFF grade and one of the best years as a slot CB. He's coming into his own. But I like that they aren't just giving it to him.

This is what I said 2 pages back.

I loved that Wilks challenged him with Lenoir and that Lenoir gets run at SCB too. That's a very smart move just in case of injury, scheme, strategy, competition, etc.

Good call. He came to play yesterday.

Absolutely. Many wanted him cut for no name unproven CBs. Hope he keeps this up.

I can't stand Ambry Witherspoon…..I mean Thomas. This is the Dim Mak (Bloodsport) for him

hopefully Oliver keeps the job

Thomas can go to the "Bottom Brick" of the depth chart.

Bravo Dr

Agree with all. I think they have found their nickel corner. Hope he keeps improving. That secondary needs depth and talent for the long haul.
Please sir, I want some more
Need Luter and Womack to comeback strong off injury to replace Thomas and Oliver, or a big trade for a CB, can't rely on them.

Oliver has been coming into his own recently.

No idea why they take him off the field to rotate or give Ambry reps.

Hopefully Luter and Jaiar Brown can challenge OLiver and Ambry for some playing time. The two squads I'm concerned about is OLine and DBs. So far OLine has held their own, but DB coverage has been an issue.

This. Ambry's game is cemented at this point. He's done. Solid player who can't track the ball and is targeted by every OC with 1/2 a brain.
Oliver has been a stud of a FA addition for us.

STUD?

uhm.... I think he's been just OK, but I don't think he's done nothing more than being OK...

Yeah, Oliver is a stud in run support, but still a liability in coverage. I think most expected that to be the case.

DID we sign him to support the run though? I mean he's a DB, we would rather have a DB that can cover than be a STUD supporting the run..

I was reading one writer's take that Oliver does well in the slot against bigger slot WR's, because he's a little bigger, but struggles against shiftier slot WR's. So pretty matchup dependent.

You're right that run support isn't the main thing we should get in a defensive back, but for a nickelback, there is some importance to be able to stop the run. Teams often like to trot out three WR's to get teams to swap out the linebacker for a slot CB that's typically a smaller 185 defensive back... and then run at them. K'Waun Williams was well regarded because he tackled well in run support, and while he didn't win every pass matchup, would usually be able to limit YAC.

Actually he was good at both from ATL, which is why we targeted him. He's definitely not a bust trade. He's been solid and I see improvements every week starting from the Rams game. I like him in the slot.
