Normal coaches would do that. Yes. But not this goof or Staley of the Chargers.

What the f**k. So now it's just us and the Feagle eagles for the number one spot.

Only thing in between us and that spot is two games. We will get it done!

I have two words for tomorrow. TyRod. Taylor.

It also was a illegal formation. He wasn't covered up on the end of the line. So pick your penalty. It doesn't matter. Lions legitimately messed up real bad.

They did, but so did the refs. No excuse, refs can't make the ineligible error when the guy had reported.

No excuse for Campbell but there is clear video evidence of the guy reporting to the head official lol.

He was also apparently uncovered. Which is also a penalty. So take your pick of penalties.

If he is eligible, he doesn't have to be covered.

Correct
Two points: First, formation rules, and second, number rules specific to the NFL.
  1. Regarding offensive formations, any player behind the line of scrimmage, or the two END players on the line of scrimmage (one on each side) are eligible to receive a forward pass. The one obscure exception is a quarterback lining up under center is ineligible.
  2. In the NFL, the numbers 50-79, and 90-99 are deemed ineligible numbers. However, the NFL permits someone wearing these numbers to "report as eligible" to the referee before they line up. Once they do so, and the referee has announced to everyone that "X" is eligible, that player must still line up in one of the eligible positions listed in point one (behind the LOS, or as an END on the LOS). If they were to line up as an "interior lineman," they would no longer be eligible.

if the Ref really just messed up, dude should be fired.

It was the lady ref. Firing her won't end well for the nfl.

Honestly, I expect a lawsuit from some gamblers over this.

Thank you for the details.

From the angle we could see, Decker has his back 3/4 to the camera and his right elbow is bent. We can't see what he is doing with his hand but the logical assumption would be he is brushing his chest to inform the ref he is eligible. That would make it legal to be on the end of the line with no penalty.

Decker is a vet and knows the procedure, PLUS we see Goff pointing him to the ref and he goes. Why Brad Allen did not announce him is the big question. ???

That doesn't make sense. We can see Dan Skipper #70 walking up to the refs where Decker is standing. What was he doing if not reporting?
Who cares? The Lions went for every 4th down, 2 point conversion, even a fake punt. Most of them they missed badly and hit on 1 fake punt. They did it to themselves. Furthermore it's better on seeding for us if the Lions lose which they did.

Yah not sure what he was doing if not reporting.

We care because it reflects the very integrity (or lack thereof) of the sport. We care because it flipped a game result that millions of dollars were wagered on. We care because if it can happen in this game it can happen against the 49ers, too.

They did it to themselves. You don't go for everything all game long and bust on almost all of them. That's just dumb. Lions could have easily won. Take the extra points all game long was all they needed to do.
