I'd be tempted to get Lamar Jackson, but I love Brock, no hate for Brock, but I like Jackson, and it would be fun to see him next to CMC in a KS run game. Jalen Hurts I am a big fan as well, he can truck ppl, and him with CMC on the RPO game would be elite. I like Fields, but Fields over Lance, not sure about over Brock. Tua with our QB injury history would be slapping the fball gods in the face, challenging them to a duel.
I think Hurts will get hurt they way he plays. He plays like a NT or FB. The amount of punishment he gives and receives will add up eventually. I don't see him lasting long term.
The NFL is littered with "run first" QB's who did not last longer than 5-7 years. Most don't last that long. There are a few exceptions to this rule.
Fran Tarkenton, aka "Frantic Fran" or "The Mad Scrambler," was an absolute maniac. He should have blown out multiple knees during the course of his career, yet somehow they held up. Perhaps the pace of the game was slower back then? I don't know. I do know that by the time I came aware of him, he wasn't running as much. But he was also on the downside of his career.
Roger Staubach, aka "Roger the Dodger," was another big scrambler. But, like Tarkenton, he mellowed with age and became more of a pocket passer. He was able to last, much to the chagrin of 49er fans. Staubach broke our hearts on more than one occassion. One of my biggest hopes and dreams as a young man was that Bill Walsh would finally put an end to the curse of Roger Staubach. Alas, by the time the 1981 49ers rolled around, Staubach had already ridden off into the sunset.
I am hoping that Lamar Jackson can make the transition into a pocket passer. His best days as a running QB are behind him.
