I think they brought him in because it was too good of a deal to pass up for an edge rusher, league vet minimum via 49ers, 2023 salary paid by the Broncos. I'm sure if a good CB, olineman etc comes up at a deal, they wouldn't pass him up either.

We're not getting home on the outside. Some of that is probably due to the secondary, but a lot of it is due to no one respecting our outside pass rushers outside of Bosa. We were better last year with Ebukam. Gregory will (hopefully) fill that role.

What makes you think he can beat out Jackson? Based on what? His highest sack total ever is 6 in a season. Drake Jackson will probably have more than that this year if you just keep playing him.
Drake Jackson has 3 sacks after 4 games. Making him on pace for 12 - 13 sacks. Something Gregory has never done in his life. Check again. LOL.

You need to stop focusing on stats and watch the games. Drake Jackson doesn't have a single sack in his career that he's generated on his own. All his sacks are the product of scheme, effort and cleanup. He may become a player in the future, but right now, he isn't giving them much as an individual pass rusher because he's flat-out struggling to win 1-on-1. I will give him credit for the incredible effort he's played with this year, but his primary role on this team is pass rushing and isn't good at it right now.

If you remove week 1--a game in which he generated 0 sacks by himself--Drake Jackson is on pace for 0 sacks this season.
Anyone thinking the end spot opposite Bosa is fine is coping/oblivious. Jackson, Ferrell and Hyder had only 8 QB hits in 243 pass rush snaps. Randy Gregory has 4 QB hits in 73 pass rush snaps. That's why the #49ers made this trade.
