So serious cap question...AB!!!...but how does this held Denver at all? If they are paying the vast majority of his salary this year, and apparently there was no more guaranteed money - it seems to me that finaancially they would have been better off cutting him. This isn't like the Goff trade where they was basically payment for draft capital - because I can't see it being worth like 9.5 million to move up 5-6 spots in the 6th round.

The 49ers likely called & said they'd swap picks since they were cutting him anyway, I'm shocked it was just a pick swap late round & no early picks TBH

I'm not AB but from what I've read I think I can answer why they did this. They were going to cut him anyways and was going to have to take 9.5 mil in dead money/cap stuff. So basically it was either let him go for nothing or trade with us for the pic with both scenarios them having to deal with the same amount of dead money/cap stuff.
If I'm wrong someone correct me though lol.
EDIT: AB Answered too when I posted this lol..

So financially it makes no difference for them to cut vs. trade? I thought there was something along the lines of, if a player is cut and signs somewhere else - then the cutting team didn't take the cap hit.

And I appreciate you! I just thought the dead cap would only be an issue if there was guaranteed money left.

That's what I read also DrChowder. Broncos were going to release him while still having to take the $$$ hit, but the 49ers called them so he would not hit the open market and offered the 6/7 pick swap. This way the Broncos got something at least with a pick swap and the 49ers secured him for the vet minimum for the remainder of this season ( a tick under 1 mil ) with the option to cut him next year, renegotiate his contract,or trade him and receive additional value back.

he's averaged 2.8 sacks a season for his career. watched this guy at Nebraska but I mostly remember off-field stuff. He played us hard in the 2021 playoff game. He's a NIner now, so let's go. Just hope Hyder wasn't too beloved in the locker room.

Nice rep from Gregory, but holy s**t, that center saw the stunt coming from a mile away and still let Gregory get inside his frame. Also, this is a game while Arden Key would legitimately align at 3technique and smoke guards. Not the same thing, Mr. Lombardi.
Iono wtf that center was doing with his hands, but a stutter bull will do that to ya.

They save $1 million and move up 10-15 picks in the draft. If you're going to cut a guy anyways, why not get something for them, however little it might be.

Woah didn't see that coming, he is an excellent edge rusher that fits our scheme perfectly but his history is pretty bad.
