He's nothing like Dee Ford. I think he's closer to Arden Key than anyone else in recent 49ers' history. Gregory is a more skilled and instinctive edge rusher than Key was, tho.

So why would he be like key? Keys big selling point out if LSU was bend around the edge and then showed none of that in the NFL they carved out a new role that allowed him to thrive here, Gregory has shown he can win on the edge since being in the pros

Heroism, give us a quick breakdown on what we should expect form Gregory. Although there's no telling which Gregory the 49ers are going to get - focused and driven, or head case.

Well, for starters they're almost the exact same height and weight(Key - 6' 4⅞", 238 lbs; Gregory - 6' 5"; 235 lbs). Both are long-limbed ectomorphic athletes who win with explosiveness, hands and feet. Both are undersized, struggle to disengage/stay in their gaps and can be displaced in the run.

Arden Key was incredible inside with his quickness; Gregory has also had success inside beating guards with his quickness. Gregory is a flat-out more skilled player from the edge. He's better with his hands and working half man with better instincts and awareness.

They also both had to go to rehab for marijuana.

Do you think he'll be a liability in the run game?

Me neither I wish they would've kept the numbers the same, this isn't college.

I don't expect him to be on the field in many situations where he needs to defend the run. I think everything is going to stay how it is right now with Ferrell playing base downs and Gregory in on moneydowns(obvious passing downs).
any news on this guy? I know practice doesn't happen until tomorrow but I was hoping to hear something about him.
What's crazy is that Gregory was widely regarded as a top 15 selection in the 2015 NFL draft but fell because of smoking weed... ridiculous. lol

This guy is such a freakin talent and has been very productive when he's played. I hope he balls out here and he is reinvigorated. still has time to get double digit sacks! lets get him started right against the Cleveland Clowns.

Some mocks had him as a top 3 selection.

We don't have very many good numbers left. he could be 5,6,49, 58, 59? I think 59 would look good on a pass rusher. 58 too.

I know I'm just being paranoid but I hope Gregory doesn't mess with the chemistry on defense. I still don't buy what the Broncos said about releasing Gregory. That they wanted to focus on the younger players. Who knows though, Sean Payton or Vance Joseph could be dicks!!!!

he's considered a OLB, so those 50 numbers work

Yeah, and 49ers.com has him listed as a LB, but because he was traded, and 5 is available, he can wear that if he wants too.

I don't think you're being paranoid at all. In fact, your point is very valid. But I don't think Shanahan or Lynch will allow that to happen. Randy is now on his third team. The NFL operates a lot like Three Strikes and You're Out. I am sure this point will be made very clear to him. He's got a chance to win here, perhaps win some hardware and turn that into a new contract. But if he screws up, he's gone.

Yeah, it's what is said on the interweb. Something in the 90's would be a lot sexier.
