Sounds like the Denver locker room was pissed to lose him.

After falling to 1-4, Denver is on the verge of yet another lost season, which is hardly what the franchise expected when Sean Payton was hired as head coach this offseason. Palmer noted that roster moves could come "before the trade deadline" and he pointed to Friday's trade of veteran defensive end Randy Gregory as something that alarmed other players.

"That move... that's what really shook up this group if you ask my opinion, talking to players, it was 'OK, now Sean Payton's gonna come in and start doing things his way, in a sense,'" Palmer said.

Can someone fill me in on why everyone is so excited about this guy? I know sack numbers don't tell the entire story but seems like an underwhelming dude.

Outside of Dee ford for a handful of snaps, I'd say Gregory is the most talented EDGE we've had opposite of Bosa.

I would agree with this assessment and offer one other: Dee Ford had knee issues and back issues. Those knee and back issues kept him on the bench for far too long. Gregory, fortunately, does not have serious knee or back issues. He, unfortunately, has head issues. It's why he is now on his third team.

I see two paths forward for the man. He either gets his head straight and plays well for his third team, OR, he takes the same highway that Antonio Brown took and plays his way out of the league.

He has a choice. I hope he makes the right one.

Kyle wanted roster control, you know, to bring in guys like CMC and TW. Elway wouldn't give him that.

It was less about Elway and more so Joe Ellis. Not only was he apparently adamant about not hiring Kyle, he blocked Elway from hiring Mike after Vance Joseph was fired.

https://milehighsports.com/how-mike-shanahan-and-john-elway-agreed-on-a-deal-before-joe-ellis-vetoed-the-decision/https://milehighsports.com/how-mike-shanahan-and-john-elway-agreed-on-a-deal-before-joe-ellis-vetoed-the-decision/

I was talking about KYLE, not MIKE. Yes, Ellis was not a fan of Mike, which may have played a factor since Kyle was his son, but that was only a part, and I guess it depends on what you want to believe. That may have been a part of it, but only Kyle and Elway truly know.

Kyle Wanted Personnel ControlFor some reason, a misconception exists that Niners' GM John Lynch is Shanahan's boss. It's the other way around. Kyle has the final say on all matters of personnel and hiring. It was he that hired Lynch to be GM, with of course the approval of Niners' CEO Jed York.

See, personnel control was one of Kyle's demands during his interview process in that year's head-coaching carousel. The problem with that, as I'm sure you can imagine, was the fact that the Broncos' personnel department was under Elway's purview. And Elway was just one year removed from winning it all as a GM.

Heck, Elway built two distinctly different Super Bowl teams as a front-office czar within three seasons of each other. In 2013, the Broncos made it to Super Bowl XLVIII on the shoulders of the No. 1 scoring offense in the history of the NFL. That Broncos squad was crushed by the Seattle Seahawks' Legion of Boom, so Elway went back to the drawing board and rebuilt the roster with a focus on defense. Two years later, Denver won it all off the back of the league's No. 1 defense.

To further complicate matters, even though the Broncos were coming off their first non-playoff season of the Elway era, they still won nine games in 2016 with the second-year Trevor Siemian as the starting quarterback. Elway was still very much feeling his oats when Kyle was interviewed, seeking the type of personnel power his dad had enjoyed for all those years in Denver.

Considering that Kyle had yet to even become a head coach and the fact that he had just turned 37, Elway and company felt like giving him personnel control was a bridge too far.

Kyle obviously has final say over the roster here, and wouldn't have gotten it in Denver. At any rate, my OP stands. Teams should do the opposite of what Denver does.

Kyle runs this b***h.

Yup, him and Papa Shanahan.

Surtain and Simmons are their two best players in a division of above average QBs and plenty of good WRs and TEs. They wont trade those guys, Payton just hates undersized defensive ends. He's from an age of 270-280 pnd DE's not the slim, lanky 250ish types. He wants a defense that can have 4 people stop the run and let LBs and DBs loose to snag a turnover or put a team behind the down.

Edit: Plus its Joseph at DC... who suuucks. Give Payton a chance to bring Williams over and he takes it. He wants big DL even on the ends like Cam Jordan, then let the LBs and DBs play fast and create takeaways without stressing about the guy in front holding up against the run.

I'd gladly give them our 1st, which will really be a high 2nd, but not if it was just for a 1 year rental. If they got him for a few years though, man, this team could literally start a dynasty while our QB is on a rookie deal.
Darryl Tapp sounds juiced for him.

Any news on his first practice?
