Can someone fill me in on why everyone is so excited about this guy? I know sack numbers don't tell the entire story but seems like an underwhelming dude.

Outside of Dee ford for a handful of snaps, I'd say Gregory is the most talented EDGE we've had opposite of Bosa.

I would agree with this assessment and offer one other: Dee Ford had knee issues and back issues. Those knee and back issues kept him on the bench for far too long. Gregory, fortunately, does not have serious knee or back issues. He, unfortunately, has head issues. It's why he is now on his third team.

I see two paths forward for the man. He either gets his head straight and plays well for his third team, OR, he takes the same highway that Antonio Brown took and plays his way out of the league.

He has a choice. I hope he makes the right one.

I like that he's coming to a top team and instantly has pressure to earn his keep.

He's a thinking man and that can be a blessing and a curse, but I think he's surrounded by a TON of motivation right now.

High hopes for me.

Well good first interview and Gregory left a few nuggets that caught my attention.

1. You can tell right off the back that he is well spoken, humble, and hungry to prove himself in a winning culture. He was clearly burnt out in Denver and depressed with the losing and direction led by Payton.

2. He will be better as a player later in the season than when he first steps on the field for the 49ers. We should not expect him to be looking like TJ Watt, JJ Watt, or any Watt when he first sees action in a 49ers uniform, and the coaches know this.

3. Goes with my second point. Gregory is just not getting fully healthy, but he still is rounding into playing with his full burst.

4. Coach Kris Kocurek is about to make the biggest difference in Gregory's football life by relearning him, or learning how to rush the passer the best way for Gregory's skill set. He talked about learning how to set his feet, play with his hands to the ground, and get the best bend from that position. It will be like Gregory was a high draft choice coming into the NFL for the very first time getting real coaching.

Btw I did like when he said the Cowboys offense looked spooked the way the 49ers were flying around on defense, and that got him excited to think he will get to do the same thing.

Heard the interview, bright guy. I admit i was surprised. Plus he's got a baby at home. Maybe thinking about things a little different. He knows his payday could be here, if he wins the bookend role. More optimistic than I was at signing.

Awesome. Excited to see this guy improve with this defense over the next few weeks

So the Fred Dean experience.

RG looks fast.
I wonder if there were any other teams really ready to sign him either through a Trade or waiting until he was released.

Enjoyed the interview and it did not jibe with what I expected given the narrative. Excited to add him to the rotation.

That's all good to hear. I didn't expect him to be as well spoken as he is. The media has portrayed him as this nut bag loose cannon addict. He seems very intelligent and have good awareness. I always liked his skill set but now I feel like he has a better head on his shoulders than I expected.

i honestly don't blame him for being depressed and wanting out of Denver. I've been in situations like that myself and if you really care, it eats as your soul and you find yourself angry all the time. Just hearing how well spoken he is, I can see why his teammates didn't want to see him go.

his skill set is a great fit for our scheme - he's going to burst into the scene IMO. He won't have as much responsibility put on his shoulders here, he will be asked to do what he does best and do it fast. I'm very excited for him.
Looks like he is rockin 5 though. Idk if I've seen a 49er LB wear that before. Hahah

Heh, he'll have to produce *REAL* quick, in my opinion, if he wants to be a 49er next year. By that, I mean it's a contract year and the 49ers can cut him any time. Now a elite pass rusher, like him, is going to command a lot of money anyway. Point being, that he has an incentive to get going as fast as he can. It took Arden and Omenihu a couple of games and both really hit their stride in the playoffs - I can see that happening for Gregory. I think he'll be a difference maker towards the end of the season and in the playoffs than he will be right now. We also got some young rookie Linebacker/Pass rusher types too that have been drafted this year that I'm excited to see play also.
