looks like denver is releasing frank clark too.... do we sign him?! muhahah man that 2015 NFL draft had some awesome D line players in it.

Clark is actually dirty...

Having said that... I'd welcome him because he's a big upgrade over Ferrell.

Screw that, if it's a fire sale in Denver get me Surtain!

Clark has always been a problem in the playoffs, that's when hes played his best ball. I think he actually has real character concerns, though.

I'd love surtain just like everyone else but I'm not willing to trade the farm for him like some are.

Yup, I think he has like 13.5 sacks in 17 games played in the playoffs. I wouldn't mind him for cheap lol

It would be interesting to see if we can do a similar deal with Denver where they pay most of his salary and swap a late pick lmao

I'm super excited for him. From what I've read, he will help us in the run game too. I think he will unseat Jackson after a few games.

Where did you hear he was good in the run game? Hero says he likely won't see those downs….

I might end up wrong about that. I went back and re-watched some of Gregory's tape with the Cowboys. He was a lot better at defending the run than I remembered him being in college. Dude is surpisingly competitive and gritty at setting edges than the last time I saw him, and he generates sneaky pop for a wiry athlete. Also, it confirmed for me that he's going to be a menace as a pass rusher in our scheme.

They'll likely stick with splitting base and rush roles between Ferrell and Gregory for now, but he could end taking all the reps after a few games.

It looks like Bosa is teaching Gregory his signature double swipe/side scissors.

Well I've heard it from David Lombardi and I've heard it from a cowboy friend of mine but idk how he is going to be here

I think we will see gregory take most of ferrels reps and some of Jackson's. I think they're going to use jackson and gregory as starter 1A & Starter 1B. I can see gregory taking over the starting role as the weeks go on.

i think that would be a good set - Bosa & Gregory rushing st the same time bad then as we rotate you have bosa & Jackson or Jackson & Gregory.

that rotation gives us consistent pressure on the edges and if we really need a body - can throw in ferrell.

Agree💯%, that constant pressure despite your starters taking a breather. Drake Jackson and Randy Gregory are pretty good duo right there as second string pass rushers when Bosa is taking a breather. 17 games is a long time, and the more breaks the defense has, the better to withstand the Marathon of a season.
Bring Clark over and let's go.

Well, Ferrell is the base starter, so Gregory will have to prove he can defend the run to take those reps. He might be able to do it. I don't think Ferrell is noteworthy in that role. He's just okay.

As for Drake Jackson, he's been the edge relieving Ferrell and playing opposite Bosa on passing downs. I think he will eventually lose all of those reps to Gregory and be relegated to a second/third line rotation role.

I don't agree about generating consistent pressure with that rotation. Drake Jackson and Clelin Ferrell are the main reasons why Randy Gregory is here. Both of them stink at rushing the QB. 49ers were getting almost nothing between those 2.

GREGGY is a natural OLB on a 3-4 scheme.. he's like LT and DT rushing the passer... best as an UP line backer.. he's NOT a DE.. sure he can rush the passer as a down lineman, but that's not what he is..

and since we have enough down DE by nature, GREGGY will have to be a PASS RUSHING SPECIALIST for the mean time.. IF they can just implement the then NY Giants " SPEED FOUR " that was used against Brady to get to him.. I can't wait for this line up !!!

I noticed that DJ Jones was inactive for tonight's game as well. I'm all in for throwing him back in the rotation.

F THAT
Gregory is listed as a LB but our edge rushers have strictly been DE's. So will he play some snaps standing up or will he be a down lineman exclusively for us?
Would be wild if we finally unlocked his potential at 30 years old. Wouldn't surprise me, bit I guess the suspensions helped keep tread on the tires.
