That height and speed could help him get in the face of the QB and at least knock down some passes. I can't see how his speed from one side combined with Bosa on the other and AA and Hargrave up the middle can't work.

He also plays super violent and explosive. He has great genetics - very strong but also very fast and explosive - he's a blue chip talent. Only reason he wasn't a top 10 selection was cause of his weed smokin, which is dumb IMO.

i think we are about to see our pass rush go to another level. This is going to be super fun to watch 😍😈

What if he plays like a $20 million/yr edge and we can keep him for $14 million/yr for three more years? Thats the kind of problem I would like to have.

This, if he plays like a $20M a yr EDGE, and we have him for $14M a yr for the next 3 seasons, it's a huge win, plus we can redo his deal if need be.
Let's go Randy! Time to beat up some Clowns. That dad with a newborn energy is a real thing. We had dads on the Knights with newborns...and look what happened. Cup. Lol

You are just the guy I was thinking about AB! It is fun to think about and not completely crazy.

Drake Jackson and Randy Gregory are pretty good duo right there as second string pass rushers when Bosa is taking a breather. 17 games is a long time, and the more breaks the defense has, the better to withstand the Marathon of a season.

Yes, sir! I hope we destroy the browns O early and run up a lead so our guys can rest like the cowboys game.

most of our starters had 25-35 snaps in the cowboys game, that's super low and amazing. Great for their health throughout the season. If we can stack games like that, it'll preserve our guys. We don't want games like the rams where our starters played 60-80 snaps, thats how they get injured and worn down throughout the season :/

Yup that's a big worry for me, our players wearing down or peaking at the wrong times. Having said that, Gregory add's more depth and talent to an already stacked DLine, and that can't hurt either stamina, endurance, depth, or complacency. Drake is going to have to step it up if he wants to keep his playing time reps, for example. We'll see how the players handle the Browns and the issue of complacency this weekend.
We have to let Randy Gregory get into a good flow and develop chemistry with his new team these first few games. What I'm looking for is him being fully ready to perform along with our defense down the stretch run when we have Seattle twice with Philly sandwiched in between. Those trio of games will likely determine the 49ers season with home field advantage.

So what exactly is his contract situation? I thought I read somewhere that Denver is paying his salary and Niners only have to pay vet minimum. Is that just this year?

Hmm I don't see us paying him $14M but who knows. I'd like to see him do a restructured contract and get closer to 7-8$m from us but who knows.

im personally viewing this as a contract that is a one year rental. If we can't afford him, I could see us trading him to someone who would want to pay him that. A talented pass rusher with no guaranteed money but two years remaining at a decent price is pretty appealing, could fetch us a 2nd rounder or so.

Yes.

Yeah, niners paying $840K of his salary this year (prorated vet minimum). Denver is paying the rest.

he has zero remaining guaranteed money after this season, so niners can cut or trade him with zero consequences.

he does have two years remaining at $14M a year but none of it guaranteed. So we can either
1) keep him and pay him $14M
2) restructure and keep him at a cheaper price and give him guaranteed money
3) trade him to a team that wants a good pass rusher at $14M a year

It's a no lose situation for us. At worst, we lose a couple draft slots in the 6-7th round and $840k. It's an amazing situation for the team.
Why is it not set in stone that he is playing Sunday?

He does not want to same as vs Dallas. Hearts not in it.

I think it's more of them not wanting to disrupt the defense until they feel like he's up to speed with doing what they're asking. I think it's almost a sure thing he plays this weekend, last weekend he didn't because he wouldn't of been got one day of practice and they probably didn't feel like it was necessary - which they were obviously right.

they're asking him to play different than he did in Denver, which should fit his skill set better, but I just think there is a concern that he may blow an assignment if he isn't comfortable yet. He's had a week of practice though - I'm sure they'll keep it simple for him as they work him into it.
Since we've traded for Gregory, I can't help but hear Randy Marsh's wife shouting "Randy!" in disgust over something.
