I'm not sure about that though. Because the Seahawks used to hold on every single play. Then the NFL changed the rules or at least the enforcement. Holding and a 5 yard penalty and a 1st down. It became a competitive disadvantage.
The Eagles can literally have 4th and 3 at their own 1 yard line. Go and get it. They have almost 100% chance of getting that. They go 4 downs all day long. Even on their own side of the field. If they have a 3rd or 4th down with 1, 2, and even 3 yards it's almost 100% automatic. That's an extreme competitive advantage. They get an unnatural amount of 3rd and 4th downs and march their way all the way down the field. It's completely ridiculous. How do you get a team like that off the field. You can almost never get them off the field if they are within 3 yards or less. It's more of a rugby scrum than football play anyway. Players can get hurt in the pileup too. Teams should have to earn it. But not with such an unnatural play with a huge competitive advantage.

i can understand if Philly doesn't sub out, but I believe they do. Defenses need to match body for body on the play but seldom do.
They need their own Tush Push from the defensive side.
This. They banned it for defense (field goal attempts). Whatever they decide, it needs to be the same for both sides of the ball.

They should ban it and call it a leverage penalty like on field goals.

Yes I agree. It's just completely unfair. It literally can't be stopped and changes the competitive balance in a negative way IMO. It has no place in the sport.

Won't be outlawed until one of the Eagles players gets hurt on that play

I don't think the competitive advantage is the play, I see teams run it and fail, I think the competitive advantage is having a QB who squats 600 lbs as the ball carrier. Banning it would be like the league stepping in after rookie Randy Moss and saying, no more balls in the air 30 plus yards downfield, cuz Moss is too good at that. Would be shameful. We need the rules to change so we can beat these guys, is a shameful mentality. Just my opinion.
I see no evidence that the play is a safety risk, moreso than any other play. All the great players, like a Rice, offer competitive advantage. Put a guy like Hill in that sprint motion, that's competitive advantage, just having Hill on the field is competitive advantage. I like all this stuff, I like that pro football is evolving, and coaches are coming up with new stuff. That's great.

With the play being practically unstoppable, I'd tell the front seven to jump offsides and blow up their middle with authority. It might make them a bit antsy the next time.

I got an idea - coach up a failed 500 pound sumo wrestler to be a specialized tush push counter.

That's what you need. A huge Nose Tackle to line up right over the Center and try to counter it. I'm surprised these teams can't figure out a solution. Why can't they do their own Tush Push from the other side. Like Linebackers and Safetys pushing the DT's or something. There must be a way to counter the leverage. They have to figure it out. Experiment with some things. Because we will see more of this play.

If it was just a forward push, I'd probably be ok with it.
The hoisting dude up by his ass and propelling him forward, airborne, should DEFINITELY be illegal. Might as well let them form a human pyramid and fall forward at that point.

the big change if any, is allow the D to substitute, even if the O doesn't substitute.
