Yep, because of the soft zone coverage scheme. More press man and the DL can eat.

Wilks is calling a LOT of press man, and we are sucking a** at it. Lenoir has struggled in recently weeks, getting very lucky multiple times against MIN, falling down @ CLE, and getting roasted Sunday. Ward keeps getting penalized.

Oliver is the worst of the bunch. Knowing this, and knowing we're thin in the secondary and Wilks wants to run 4-2-5 regardless of situation most of the time, teams are spreading us out and running personnel packages that force Warner to essentially to play CB while Oliver is in match-up Hell against a receiver he has no hope of hanging with. Womack and Luter are supposed to be better at man coverage. I don't know if Womack's loss hurt us more than we thought now that we have no one else to rotate in.

Wilks scheme and pathetic playcalling are a huge problem in stopping the run, and Oliver being so bad is giving teams the option to attack us any way they want by simply spreading us out 3 or 4-wide and running if they get the look they want now.

No one is making Purdy throw into triple coverage. The QB decides where to go with the ball. What needs to happen, IMHO, is Shanahan needs to sit him down and remind him to stop trying to be a hero. Take what the defense gives and manage the game.

And now that we've added Chase Young, that should reduce a little bit of the pressure on him to win the game. Hopefully.

I'm sure Lynch called around about CBs but the best ones that were rumored to be available all stayed put. I guess the asking price was too high. Surtain was always a pipe dream anyway. As far as getting the ball out quickly that's true but everty team that has a good pass rush faces the same issue.

This year's D line is better on paper but the results aren't there. The secondary is pretty much the same except Jimmie Ward and he wasn't a lock down corner. Maybe it's the subtle changes that Wilks made or maybe these guys just believed their press clippings too much.

Great take. Purdy is pushing and he is used to it at Iowa st. But he needs to shake out of it and play within himself again. Mitchell sucking, not involving Mason more, putting everything on CMC. Once he gets stopped, Purdy plays hero ball and thats not his game.

Since the CB question was brought up here, anyone know if Womack or Luter Jr. will be available anytime soon?
