as these past few games have shown, a 5-2 wide-9 front is suicidal against the run and quick passes by competent QBs

One, you are almost forced to play man in a 5-2 front
Two, this means the pressure on the two linebackers is already immense. Any missed tackles on the second level and its a huge gain.

Three, if you trade for Chase Young, you stop with the 5-2 stuff and start playing Seattle-style cover 3 zones.

Need an Earl Thomas for that.

I would as someone else said have rather seen them pick up secondary help, but Young can certainly play. I wonder about the pass rush scheme though because there is already enough talent on that line to do much, much, much better than they have been. 45 drop backs from a semi mobile Cousins two weeks ago with zero sacks for example.
We all know the defense is wrong the past three weeks. Giving up too much ball control. So lets hope this works.

What CB was available and at what price? Easy to say "I wish they did this or that" but they don't control what other teams want. You've seen this pretty much exact same team be dominant on defense. Don't let your emotional reactions sway you too much

Does anyone else get Dwight Freeney / Robert Mathis vibes. The potential is there.

We played that way before and did pretty good with the likes of Ward and Tartt. Thomas made it an all time great defense, but I still think it can work with our personnel.

Yea that defense was ass most of the time too, lol.

Exactly. It was reported early today that the Bears were "Asking a high price" for Johnson, and then there would be the question of what money he would want on an extension. I don't know, when the guy gets only his 3rd INT in 4 years - and starts saying right there on the field it's time to pay him - that's not a good sign for me. The only one I really wanted was Surtain, and I'm thinking the win over the Chiefs this Sunday gave the Broncoes false hope they were actually good, so they decided not to have a fire sale.

This. We've had a poor secondary dating back to Fangio days and were able to generate pressure with just 4 dudes. This front 4 SHOULD generate pressure on every passing down. If Wilks wants to fiddle with coverage disguises, confusing fronts etc, cool. But let the dogs hunt, my man. The most creative you have to get with them is whether or not to stunt/twist with any of the 4 down linemen.

I know Bosa got his money, but if he has any kind of pride he better pick his game up. Your play resorted to having your boss get another man that plays your position to do the job.

I just want pressure on the QB that's all, to stop the beat down that is going on in the secondary.

I think it's a pretty good move. We'll see how he does in Wilkes system. Just thinking about the summer we could have had a proven commodity like noguki or Houston for 10 million or less. And here we are scrambling in week 8. Oh well I guess we had to see that Drake Jackson wasn't going to work out. I think we're setting the table for our next DC whenever he shows up

Justin Houston-0.5 sacks

Yannick Ngakoue-2.0 sacks

They didn't miss out on anything.

Yannick hasn't been good for a while. Houston is old as dirt.

You mean Drake Jackson…you do realize they have more than one EDGE that can play at the same time?
